Sorry, i seem to have missed something.
I didn't watch this thread lately.
I thought it was concluded that there will be also a new 2d scan of the movie, along with the 3d. (i think someone from inside Fox had said this in his twitter)
Now, it seems the Bluray includes only the 3d?

I'll only buy the 3D blu if there's a 2D remaster inside.

The answer to the question from Foxconnect regarding the contents of the German, UK, and U S Predator 3D release (without the collectible head).

"Dear Valued Customer,
Thank you for contacting us.

The version that he [James Finn] is referring to on Twitter is being released in the United Kingdom and Germany only, as he states in his tweet. This release is a two disc version including the 3D blu ray and the 2D blu ray which is the Ultimate Hunter Edition that includes all the special features.

The US release is a 2 disc version. Disc 1 is the Blu ray including the 3D and 2D theatrical versions. Disc 2 is the DVD release. The US version does not include the Ultimate Hunter Edition [Blu-ray]. That is only included in the UK and Germany release.

If you have any further questions. Do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank you,
Customer Care
Your ticket number is: 306010"

My last question to them was "Is the 2D version on the 3D disk the Ultimate Hunter Edition?" I'll post their response.

Only the UK and German Predator 3D release have the Ultimate Hunter Edition Blu-ray as disk 2. The U S release has the DVD as disk 2 as is shown on the artwork and disk description on Foxconnect.

Thanks!
So what was that guy in the twitter saying that there will be a new 2d scan?
Very dissapointing and irritating!

edit: oh, i see you're waiting a response about the 2d version in the US 3d Bluray.
looking forward to the news.

I should receive a response from them tomorrow. Here is how I posed the question: " Are you saying Finn was wrong when he said the U S release of Predator 3D was the Same as the U K and German release? Or, is he saying that the 2D version on the 3D disk is the Ultimate Hunter Edition for all of the releases?"

UK and Germany will release the Blu-ray 3D with the 2D BD disc (Ultimate Hunter Edition), including all the extras.

Regarding your question about a new 2D scan. I have read all of Finn's tweets regarding this issue and he never said there was a new 2D scan.
The only official information was in the initial press release which states there is an all new 3D transfer. i.e it is mastered in 3D. The 2D is nothing more than the left eye of the 3D master.

So, we can assume the 3D is based on the 2D UHE? And that is pretty much all we are getting (whether watching in 2D or 3D).

Same goes for Sony's 2D version of Underworld Awakening, which looks quite different from the 3D/2D disc.

Basically, if you ever see a 3D disc which has a 2D playable version on it, they're both part of the same MVC encode. Viewing "just" the left eye is exactly how the 2D version is supposed to work.
The french 2D Dredd is a separate disc and kills all other versions out there. PQ and colors are spot on dark and grim looking not overbright lit like the US 3D.

The answer, forthcoming from Foxconnect should mesh with James Finn's comment, given that Foxconnect is the sales site for Fox Home Entertainment and James Finn is an EVP with Fox Home Entertainment. The information should be coming from the same source.

I know, that's why I said "there's an actual 2D standalone in some markets, e.g. France". Having owned that version I concur that it is darker and grimmer, but I prefer the gaudier look of the 3D version. Seems more like a comic book that way.

But Finn said on Twitter, that the 3D version use a different new transfer(different than the Ultimate Hunter Edition).

Ask yourself why the final question in this twitter conversation was not publicly answered by Finn. Anyone with the most rudimentary powers of deductive reasoning knows the answer.

@FinnAtFox Final question, because people still doubt. The source for the 3D is a new 4K transfer, right?

im guessing we are screwed in the blu-ray format maybe they will actually do a proper hd remaster on 4k

4k is gonna happen mainstream 2 years from now just like how bluray first started out.

The scan used for the Digital Intermediate for the Ultimate Hunter Edition in 2010 was 4K. Work flow was in 2K to create the master. So, I believe you are right. We will eventually see a 4K (Ultra HD) Predator as a digital download or on a yet to be specified physical disk.

Sorry, but the source for this information cannot be posted.

Guys let's just wait until a reviewer gets hold of the disc and puts up screenshots and a review before we make a final judgement on this release.

If it's a new, properly done transfer than great but if it isn't I'll be sticking with the original '08 BD.

There's no way I'm buying that crappy UHE edition again after selling it already once.

It's very irritating with the word games used. Why doesn't he just be honest about it - the truth is eventually going to come out.

Wasn't it confirmed somewhere that the UHE's transfer was sourced from the same HD master as the original BD and the reason it looks so different is because it was processed to death?
