I am still very disappointed that they still cant have functionality do 3 simple things that the ps3 did. 1 - group games with games, movie and tv with movie and tv, so on and so forth. 2 - play music from the hard drive. Cool now at least we will have the ability to play our own music instead of a soundtrack, but i really have to keep a usb plugged in to do it? 3 - why cant I just use whatever wallpaper that I want for the background of the home screen???? Is that sooo hard to do????
1 - The Library will now do that.
The main interface is not meant for that, it is designed in its very philosophy to be sorted by "most accessed/ recent content", like Facebook and the likes if you will (blame the success of social medias).

2- Blame hackers who used the multi OS boot -and- the HDD user content enabled to access the PS3 core functions. Now Sony will do (apparently) everything it can to avoid users to upload their own content directly on the HDD. What -I- want now is video formats enabled for the media player as well (MP4, AVCHD ... and who knows, MKV?). Also hopefully when they say USB they don't actually restrict it to USB sticks but also mean USB Hard drives (for media).

3- We don't know how the themes will work, yet. I imagine they have some concerns with
a) some braindead users making a really stupid wallpaper that makes it difficult to read what's on it and then have trouble acccessing core functions and then complain to Customer Suport
b) wanting to sell you custom themes
c) streaming yourself with a very offensive, or pornographic wallpaper included. I think they already ran into a host of troubles with some .. behaviors, on Twitch and the Playroom (including but not limited to a couple involved in something that should have been best kept in the bedroom)

We'll see if eventually we see (like on PS3) a Theme Factory software released

After this update, I think the most important features that will remain to add are:

- Video formats for Media Player
- DLNA support
- Suspend / Resume
- Download pause
- HDD backup on USB
- HBO Go (maybe it's coming with this one? It's kinda been MIA since the PS3 got its own version)

Can we just use our captured screenshots as our themes? I haven't seen anything about this feature yet.

Afaik the Themes features hasn't been detailed yet.
Honestly, I wouldn't dare hope (at least for now) for user custom themes.

Better to expect that any and every single theme will be sold, with perhaps a few "free" ones each month with PS+ (or nice discounts).

I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it

Yeah, I suppose you're right. Strange that very few seem excited about Share Play, which (a big if) if done right, could be a fantastic feature. My friends don't buy as many games as I do, and won't watch me stream. But if I can give them a taste on their ps4s, I'm sure I could actually get them to pay attention to the games I suggest (and I wouldn't have to hear things like "well, I know YOU like it, but IGN said Alien Isolation is terrible." sigh).

Shareplay sounds AMAZING. Still have (like many I suspect) problems really wrapping my mind around it tbh (It's a bit like an advanced version of Remote Play really).

- Every game is supposed to be compatible, it's OS level
- EVERY game with local co-op can now be online co-op
- NO limit of sessions, just 1h at a time
- 8 players can group up and talk/ type about a game, just 2 being able to see it/ play it at a time
- A Dev can set "some" scenes to not be able to be Shareplayed (per Sony policy, I guess regarding "copyrighted" content?), but there is no warning that "only some games wil be compatible, so I imagine that Sony told the devs : Here, this is a Code Flag that will make the code in it not Share-Play able. BUT you are limited to X% amount of content restricted within a game, and only X times that per game maximum.

Now regarding the sorting per type in the Library, ask and you shall receive :

That's bc there was no need for it at the PS3 launch. The PS3 wasn't selling every retail game digitally from the beginning. We also didnt have the vast number of indies. The PSN store offering was MUCH more limited at launch than where it ended up so the XMB was a lot more manageable and not the cluttered mess that the PDM is. Its jarring that this thing launched without any folder options given how connected it is to the internet and how they are pushing digital sales more than ever

Maybe next year they'll add the ability to play CDs, SACDs, & DVD-Audio?
I know they won't, but that would be awesome!

Agreed. Personally I feel the ps4 should have been able to do everything the ps3 could from the start...

Good to know on the library. Now if an option to have that be the page that will open on startup...

Dedicated YouTube app is exactly what I've been hoping for. That app is extremely slow on the Roku Streaming Stick. If only we could get WatchESPN.

I know I'm really sick of all of this social media crap. Why does everything have to be shared? I don't play video games to have a great social experience. I play games to get away from having to deal with real people. LOL I don't care what games other people are playing or what trophy they got or that they are watching Netflix. I really don't. I don't want to share with them that I like to waste my time playing video games.

I just want to turn on my PS4, find what I'm looking for and play games, music, videos, etc. I like technology, but not everything has to follow Facebook's model.

Next, we'll have refrigerators that tell everybody what we are eating and what temperature we keep our vegetables. Stupid!

exactly, basic hard drive functions on the thing need to be opened up asap, uploading our own media on there is a MUST for me to even consider it. I never stream my stuff. I transfer it ACROSS my network then play on my ps3... kind of hard to play 30mbps rips across wireless

I'm confused by this statement, because when I swapped out my PS4 hard drive this is exactly what I did. I backed up all my saves to USB.
