can someone look at the thumb scene and see if its noticable in motion? I know people have said its not, but could someone actually look at the thumb please and not just watch the scene as normal.

Peirce's Carrie appears to be yet another victim of studio tampering/meddling that resulted in reshoots and excised scenes. Rumor has it that there's a workprint/director's cut that's much closer to the book, but who knows if/when we'll have a chance to see that version.

Yeah, I think I signed that petition once myself. I loved Boys Don't Cry and was excited to hear that Kimberly Peirce was attached to Carrie, so it's a real shame the studio had to step in and impose so many reshoots. I'd love to see the scene in which young(er?) Carrie causes a rain of stones upon the house. Similarly I'd love to see the one they shot for the original film, but the materials are probably lost.

Honestly I woke up last night in a cold sweat after having a nightmare about spending $31 to get this from Shout. Especially when I know there's a good chance it'll be going for $20 or less six months from now.

I just picked up Invasion of the Body Snatchers for $16 at Best Buy and that just came out in August.

So I have two questions that may help me decide:

1. How nice is the poster that comes with the regular edition? Is it impressive when you see it in person?

2. How does Shout compare to Amazon in terms of customer service and shipping reliability/quality? Are you more or less likely to get a damaged slip from Shout, or about the same? Are they good with returns?

Help me o my brothers.

...you're my only hope.

The poster is the same image featured on the cover of the Collector's Edition, and it's quite beautiful. Probably my favorite Scream Factory original cover image to date, in fact (...although I really like what they did with Assault on Precinct 13).

I've always had good results from ordering directly from Scream Factory. First of all, I usually receive these movies two weeks before most normal people receive them, and that in itself is quite fun. Second of all, they've always done a good job shipping my items. A couple of times, the movies have arrived with slipcovers that are slightly creased on the spine, but that's only a small grievance to me.

Shout has the better transfer it looks like. I haven't watched the 2008 blu ray, but it looks like it has too much red.

1. The poster seems nice enough, that is if you don't mind the fact that it is shipped folded and will thus have creases.

2. Shout ships in the same crappy bubble mailers that Amazon uses. I actually contacted Shout recently to raise my concerns over their use of those types of mailers for shipping "collectible" merchandise in. The bubble mailers are why I've largely stopped shopping at Amazon for movies. My slips haven't arrived in terrible condition, but they have not exactly been mint either. As for their return policy, I can't speak on that.

I just finished watching Carrie and I found some scenes to be kind of hazy. This is the first time I've watched the movie and I thought it was better than the remake. Are the scenes shot that way or is it Shout's transfer that is causing this?

The poster can only be obtained by ordering from Shout...yes?

Some scenes have always been hazy and had a dreamlike quality to them.

Quick question that I'm not sure anyone has the answer to: Anyone know why Sissy Spacek is missing from the interviews? Was she not asked or has she moved on from Carrie?

"The people missing from the new extras declined to be interviewed...and we asked several times"
That's a quote from Cliff MacMillan of Scream Factory posted in the comments section on this site when the announcement of Carrie's final extras went up.
I felt both Sissy Spacek and De Palma were pretty thorough in their recollections in the original
Bouzereau documentary so I was not surprised by their absence in the new extras.

We've gone over this before. Carrie removed the principal's thumb with her mind. Brian De Palma claims that this was impossible at the time, but with the help of today's technology, it was easily achieved on this director-approved collector's edition.

Received my copy yesterday. Boy is this thing beautiful, and I can't believe I've never owned Carrie before, in any format. DePalma is such a great director. Loved the Horror's Hallowed Grounds feature too.

This is one of my all time favorites. De Palma virtually seduces the audience with his dream-like style and swirling camera - just drawing you in and setting you up for the kill...masterful.

This is also one of the best and brilliantly cast films in the history of the genre, from the starring roles right down to the supporting cast.

I need to pick this up soon. I liked the remake thought it was good but I wish we could see the original directors cut of the film. Studios need to leave their director films alone and stop tampering with them. As for the Scream Factory release the comparison screen shots look great it looks like another top notch effort by Scream factory

If anyone bought directly and isn't too attached to their poster (regular poster, not SE) HMU. Have a ROTLD special edition slip id trade for it.
