![]() If I'm not mistaken, the individual films lack any bonus features in that box set. Assuming that doesn't matter too you, the only GKIDS editions you may want are... Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind - New transfer, and fixed credits. Castle in the Sky - Includes both versions of the score. PONYO - Has Japanese DTS-HD Master Audio. (may not matter if you primarily watch these movies in English.) However, if you prefer to watch them with subtitles, I think the box set has proper subtitles for all the films. If not, the only ones you'd need to worry about are... Princess Mononoke Castle in the Sky Kiki’s Delivery Service (this one is a bit debatable) For more info. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...postcount=3039 Last edited by gwfb5; 09-30-2018 at 03:39 AM. |

Yup apparently they couldn't decide which film to show first because they felt that if audiences watched Grave of the Fireflies first, they would be too bummed out to sit through a fun family film like Totoro, but if they screened Totoro first then they'd be all happy then just hit in the face with the misery of GotF, so I think they left it up to the theatre managers to decide so it all depended on which theatre you went to see them at.

Most receivers have a DSP setting for this, so you could even listen to a CD in DPL surround sound, for instance. Last edited by Ruined; 02-12-2018 at 08:49 PM. |

They've implied that they will try to acquire it as soon as Disney loses the rights, but it might be a while before that happens. Lord knows if/when they'll ever acquire Grave of the Fireflies. |

Have they expressed interest in GotF?

Apparently GOTF isn't part of the Ghibli Collection in the US, something I still don't really get but whatever... I'm sure they'd like to have it even if it couldn't be part of the Ghibli Collection though since they release other animated films too, but I haven't heard anything. Sentai probably would want to hold on to the rights if possible.
I'd assume Wind Rises will eventually get re-released under GKIDS, just who knows when. Though it has been 7 months since they first announced all this, and it'll be 4 years since the Disney release this coming November, so just depends on how long Touchstone/Disney have the rights for before they expire... Maybe they'll have it by the time the How Do You Live is released in 2021 for a double release, if not before. Could surprise us and release it along side Mary and the Witch's Flower too. |

Just to clarify, all of the recent GKIDS re-releases are distributed by Shout Factory. Info on the major differences between the Disney and GKIDS/Shout Blu-rays can be found here. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.p...postcount=3039 Last edited by gwfb5; 09-30-2018 at 03:40 AM. |

My mistake. I thought that Shout went first, then Disney. I was going by DVDcompare.net. Foolish error. Apparently the Collected Works set which omits pretty much all of the extras. That...sucks.

It can admittedly be confusing, especially lately, with all the different releases from several different distributors.
Also, yes from what I have heard the Collected Works of Hayao Miyazaki box set, for whatever reason, omits any special features for the individual films. I'm pretty sure I responded to you about this a day or two ago. Quote:

The collected works set is copying the similar Japanese set, which dropped extras in order to provide the maximum possible bit rate for the films. Though I'm not sure the US transfers did the same (but I do know they fixed all the errors in subtitles and the burnt in credits).

Also, the only Miyazaki films that lacked proper subtitles on the Disney Blu-rays were Princess Mononoke, Castle in the Sky, and Kiki's Delivery Service. (though Kiki has never had literally translated subtitles on any US release.) If I'm wrong about any of this, please correct me. |

There must be another underlying reason; after all Disney deemed Only Yesterday "un-family friendly" yet they still got the rights and held them hostage until GKids freed the film.
