Arrow didn't do a 4K restoration. According to the booklet, the film was scanned in 4K but all the work was done in 2K.

Dude like, I know you're late to the party but it's all about quality and future-proofing. There are many, many 4k remaster films on Bluray that don't have UHD releases.

See you at the party Richter! I know these things but it's a shame it's not in UHD. It should be...

You asked "why do a 4k restoration" as if you didn't know. So how would I know? lmao

Amazon.ca never had the limited edition available, I pre-ordered it back in October but the site never got it in to sell. This is really frustrating, are there any Canadians who were holding out for .ca to get this? Did you get it somewhere else? I don't know where else to get it for a reasonable normal price.

I bought mine from Diabolik DVD when it became clear Amazon.ca weren’t getting it.

How in holy hades is this only one disc? All those new special features, not to mention, all the ones from previous releases, along with the film, on a single BD50?! I've not seen any issues come up, from reviewers, regarding any compression issues, which is great, just a little puzzling.

I pre-ordered from Amazon.ca in early August and it arrived on the release date of Oct. 29, 2019. I had no idea that they cancelled others' orders!

A good portion is SD content which requires less space.

[Show spoiler]

Seriously though, the disc was authored by David Mackenzie (Blu-ray Encoding God™).

Can anyone explain what the difference is between the limited edition and the standard edition of the arrow releases? Both listings on here say slipbox, replicas etc.

It's a mistake in the standard edition listing; there is no slipbox, booklet, and poster/cards. The discs are the exact same.

It's what happens when you get it done by an encoding house that gives a shit, instead of the 'set and forget' outfits used by many indies who seem to have cornered the market for compression by offering mediocrity at low low prices. Look at the Shout and Arrow versions of Carrie: despite the Arrow fitting virtually everything from the Shout 2-disc set onto 1 disc it STILL has an encode for the main movie that's just as big as the Shout's AND has a higher peak bitrate with less destructive filtering. People seem to think that compression feats like this are magic but they're not, they're just handled by diligent, competent, and intelligent people.

I pretended to place an order. It said:

Delivery date: May 7, 2020 If you order in the next 13 hours and 46 minutes ( Details )
Items shipped from Amazon.com

May 7? WTF?

(I already have it anyway)

Finally watched my Arrow copy tonight - it looks fantastic.

Never noticed that Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy are listed in the credits as themselves lol

The limited edition is so nice. I don't usually splurge for these limited editions but I'm glad I picked this up.

Love this film so much and this release. Probably the best one yet.

Can’t wait to see the 4K release when the time comes. Hope it also includes the original mono audio track.

I assume the 4K will most likely come out next year on the movies 40th Anniversary.. With Arrow just releasing their 1st 4K release i suspect they will be distributing this also.

Generally, Arrow discs settle in around $20. What’s the deal with the standard release of AWIL? It’s been near $30 since release.
