I find it fascinating that what started as a source for pirated anime now forces people to pirate anime. Good job!

Glad I own my anime Physically. my only causality from this is my DragonBall Super Broly Digital Copy.

Crunchy Roll sucks. I still haven't forgiven them for locking black clover behind their premium paywall when I was in the middle of S3.

I have hundreds of digital copies that came with my anime Blu-rays, and I never redeemed a single one. I never had any interest in digital copies. I did sell a few, should have sold them all when I first got them, lol.

Yeah, I found those codes to be a waste of paper, as I never redeemed any of them. I tossed every single one in the garbage when I first opened a release. When I think of a "digital copy", I think a downloadable copy, not just access to the videos via Funimation. Not that I would need those either since I have the disc(s) (I prefer to watch most things on a TV).

I never did. I would use it to check things out (especially back when I had no income as a teenager, the days of when free legal streams with ads were a thing), then anything I cared enough about, I would later buy on disc and any future viewings would come from there.

That must be disappointing but I can only imagine the very young (or naive) doing so. It doesn't take long for most people to realize that licenses expire, companies change hands, DRM exists, etc.

In my case, I never even bothered redeeming the vast majority of my codes as I always had a subscription anyway so it was essentially pointless.

Streaming has its place and uses to be sure but it's by no means a replacement for physical ownership.

Phooey, even if I probably won't get around to watching the digital copies in my Robotech sets.

I usually redeem any codes I can find, just for fun.

now im terrified about my ps3 digital library. I need to get that harddrive replaced with a 800gb one ASAP!

As for the funi digital codes oh well, I guess I don't have to feel so annoyed that the one gintama set I got didn't have a working code so I have half the 2015 season missing on digital on funi.

You should be more worried about the CMOS battery dying, and if Sony ever gets rid of what the PS3 uses to sync the time when you select "Sync to Internet". My CMOS battery died around 9 years ago, and every time I power my PS3 on after a power outage or I flipped the switch in the back to turn it completely off (I stopped doing that years ago, not leaving it on standby likely drained the battery way faster), I can't use my digital content unless I sync the clock with the internet. I intend on replacing the battery when I finally also replace the 15 year old thermal paste and get all the dust out. Google "CBOMB" for more info, it also caused issues on the PS4 and PS5, which were since patched after backlash but not for the PS3 because Sony doesn't care about a discontinued console from 2006 they're not making much money on anymore.
Also, every time you replace the internal storage, you have to sign-in to PSN and do a system activation for the content. I had to do this when I upgraded from the original 80GB HDD to a 1TB HDD. 1TB is overkill if you primarily do physical, though that's largely the smallest you can get now, it's also the largest the PS3 software supports.

oh my ps3 already does that. its been doing it since the mid 2010s for me. I've been meaning to buy the battery and hdd but just never got around to doing it out of being nervous about opening up and dissembling my ps3 fat.

I never was able to redeem my FUNimation digital copies. The only FUNi release that I redeemed was DBZ: Battle of Gods, but that was actually Vudu (and it was a Walmart-exclusive), not FUNimationNOW. It’s still available there.

Depending on the model, it's not too difficult. I have one of the final fats, so replacing the battery is easier, though I would have to reapply the thermal paste afterwards. How the final run of the fats needs to be disassambled.
The original fats. Replacing the CMOS battery is harder on those ticking time bombs. Upgrading the HDD is quite easy, there's multiple guides out there.
Only consoles I've ever taken apart were the original Xbox to remove the clock capacitor (guaranteed to leak and likely will destroy the motherboard, you can just yank it off without needing to desolder), and a PSP 3000 I imported from Japan to replace the analog stick as it had stick drift (was an enormous pass in the ass to to do, especially putting it back together).

I was able to redeem most. Some just flat out didn't work, and yes, I did try combinations of 0 and O when present. Most of the time they worked, but it was puzzling when they didn't.

17 titles announced is great. 2 are limited editions. 1 is a One Piece Collection. But stellar releases coming in May. Hope this continues!

So is anybody else compiling a last-minute queue of "not transferred to CR" titles to watch on Funimation before they shut down? I'm trying to get through the following before 4/2/24:

Azur Lane (already finished this one, as the uncensored version did not make it to CR)
Blood-C
Code Geass: Akito the Exiled
Galaxy Angel Rune
Inari KonKon
Kamisama Kiss S1-2
Sengoku Basara S1-2 (assorted eps I missed in a group-watch)
Soul Eater NOT (though I haven't seen the original series)
