I'd prefer the uncut version but will buy either way. Will the same people saying they won't buy this unless uncut also complain if Paramount never releases 2 and 3 on UHD due to poor sales? Paramount won't care why Scream sold poorly, just that it did.

If the uncut version is not included then the only way I buy this release is if there's a steep discount somewhere down the road. Otherwise, I'm good. No way I pre-order and buy brand new at full price.

Honestly, damn them for continuing to screw us. The unrated cut is the way Wes intended the movie to be. So not only do they continue to screw us, but they disrespect his legacy by not putting it out.

Major difference or minor difference, who are we to decide?

If Wes Craven wanted the unrated footage in there it should be in there.

It's absence may not ruin the movie, but we shouldn't be acting as though it's no big deal, and that what the MPAA did, and Paramout/Miramax continue to do is A-OK.

While it would be cool to have the uncut version, I’m so used to the theatrical cut that I’d be happy with it. I had the VHS of the uncut version (with cool cover art, btw) and it always bugged me that Stu’s little celebratory moment was cut after he invites Sidney and Tatum to the party (I believe that was the context of the scene anyway). That felt like such an awkward edit knowing what was supposed to be there and I never understood why such a small moment was missing from the cut with the extra gore.

No. That's with Lionsgate.
I can't either, but there's always that chance, if they have that cut of the movie. Since it hasn't been released on video in over 20 years I doubt it will happen, but who knows?

If Lionsgate owns part 4, I very much doubt that a box set will ever be released.

Sad but true. Only the boutique labels put care in to horror releases. Raging on a forum does nothing, if we are lucky SF, Arrow or Kino will eventually get the rights and then we will get a uncut special edition. In the meantime I’m not going to deprive myself of upgrading from the terrible Blu-ray.

So do anyone get the feeling that the announcement may be pending on a possible trailer/ marketing rollout for SCREAM (2022)?

I feel like it's a great opportunity for a one-two punch of SCREAM word of mouth.

Just a thought I had...

Look, we're not talking about entire scenes here. The violence had to be cut back, Craven was frustrated by this (as was I), but it's still an excellent movie that sold a ton of tickets, VHS tapes, DVDs, and Blu-rays. An unrated cut would be terrific but the lack of it shouldn't be a deal-breaker. Many movies were butchered by the MPAA and those movies suffered greatly (a few, like Intruder, didn't even make sense after the edits). Any fan of Scream should be grateful the MPAA edits did not result in a bad movie.

I believe they said they found it attached to the negative, but I could be wrong. I’m obviously not an expert lol

That particular scene was quite graphic in the R-rated version.

The fact that we are still not getting unrated in 2021 should either tell you the studios don't care or they're going to re-release this down the line in the uncut version.

Or… Miramax does not have the elements to do an uncut version. Remember, the assets were in Disney archives and could still be in those archives. Meaning someone has to look for them and with Miramax’s large catalog, that could be daunting.

I’m not saying it can’t be done but I am saying that you all are holding your breaths for a cut that was released in 1996/1997 in non-anamorphic widescreen. Miramax has to make a new master that is at least enhanced for widescreen televisions.

Everything else equal (assuming they have access to materials and they did back with the BD), I guess the studio asked themselves: "What would Wes do?" If the most recent Blu-ray was the theatrical cut when he was still alive, you have to wonder if that's the one he ended up landing on and loving more.

The only thing I'd really like the R-rated cut to do is not confuse the viewer as to what is happening to Steve initially. The unrated shows him fully in the chair, and the R-rated version only shows his face. I guess it was also mentioned the unrated version also isn't as dark there to reveal more? Unclear. I mention this because I've been watching a lot of Scream reaction videos, and most everyone gets confused watching that moment.

If I had to compromise and either get the unrated version of this film or the sequels on 4K, you know where I and most others lean on that. I'm not saying there should be one versus the other, but I'm pretending to pick battles here.

And it’s been released how many times on DVD and BD in unrated form in the US over the last 25 years? Exactly. It’s practically a lost cut at this point. I understand why we’re doing the same old song and dance about it but you’d think people had realised by now that it wasn’t a priority for the rights holders. Christ, it didn’t even rate an anamorphic DVD release while the BD is a horror show, and not in a good way.

If we get a beautiful film-like 4K transfer of this then I will weep tears of joy regardless of it being unrated or not. Again, I understand why other folks will be annoyed but if no-one buys this then what message does that send? They usually re-release stuff that people bought in droves the first time around, not stuff that people ignored. Sure, I did just say that the rights holders don’t GAF anyway but good sales figures often have a funny way of making things happen.

This website probably have listed the preorder prematurely (as usual), and Amazon had disabled the link. This website have a bad habit of listing preorders too early for 4K movies to get the members all excited with misinformation, and I wish the hell they would stop doing it. They'll list preorders for movies on this site when they're still showing in theaters, without an official release date for home video which is ridiculous. Blu-ray.com is the only website that does it and I don't know why because, it will only going to make people angry and confused.

If they were able to get the Producer's Cut of Halloween 6, an uncut version of Scream is very possible.

But who is “they”? An indie label who’d do everything to put together an unrated version or a studio/distributor that barely gives a fook? Unfortunately Scream is with the latter and I can’t see it going to an indie any time soon.
