It must be hard to enjoy a 2021 movie watching it from the perspective of the 1950s.

It's OK as a film, but the odds of it changing your mind aren't great. Some of the 3D scenes should be fun, but as a film this certainly doesn't have the pizazz that Iron Man had.

As for the perspective of the 1950s, you say it like it's bad thing () when that was the Golden Age of 3D.

You kind of proved my point for me before so I was content to leave it at that. Then you went and did it again, but this time I think I finally understand.

When you said:

This above statement does seem to contradict this one:

But to you this film represents Shang-chi's rejection of toxic masculinity. To be fair, that was the message they were constantly reminding the viewer about in very unsubtle ways. It's why you emotionally reacted the way you did to me calling it out.

To me this is much more complicated than that which is why I find Shang-chi's father one of the better defined characters in the film.

The MCU is based on character interactions. It's not surprising that I find the family sitting down at the table scene in Black Widow one of the best parts of the film, because that's what the MCU excels at. As I said Shang-chi has all the elements to continue that tradition. But they are now filtering these "real" life complications and therefore simplifying the interactions through the modern binary interpretation of "toxic masculinity".

This has been useful because not only do I understand your reactions better, but I also now understand why what they did in the film annoyed me .

I completely checked out of the movie in the 3rd act (usual MCU CGI fest) but the start of the movie is great. In act 1 of the movie, some of the action is some of, if not the best action in the MCU.

Great act 1
Good act 2
Horrible (for me) act 3

Gives it a middle of the road 6/10 for me. Definitely worth getting for act 1 alone.

I liked this film quite a lot and if it wasn't for the constant and repeated 21st century messaging it would also be one of my favourites. As it stands I just find it one of the most entertaining in the MCU cannon which I suppose is the goal

I'm a sucker for CGI-fests as long it is done right (for me) I have no issues with the silly stuff .

No, the film represents Shang-chi's journey to finding what his path is supposed to be and trying to make amends for the things he did out of weakness. It is only because he is able to make his way to Ta Lo that his path ends up going a certain way. His only goal when he left San Francisco was to protect his sister, he wasn't planning on making it all the way to the magic village.

Cool, totally agree with that. But that's now how what you were saying is coming across, especially as what you said does tally with what they were trying to do.

Anyway, fun film, I have some issues, can't wait to see it in 3D.

I'm hoping it follows the usual path of being much better on disk.

No reason to think otherwise at this point, but if someone wants to play it safe they should wait for a review.

Almost too late for me since I've already pre-ordered it lol. I suppose I could cancel it, but there are so many opportunities for good stereoscopy in this film, it should be at least as good as Captain Marvel and it has the potential to be better. Like a good combination of Captain Marvel and Dr Strange. Plus despite my issues with the messaging, I did enjoy the film.

The big MCU sky battle in SC is better from a thematic perspective than Captain Marvel's space battle, but from a 3D perspective I'm not sure it compares. Same goes for DS, as while 3D is really the only way to watch SC, there's no scene in here approaching that film's crazy city-folding spectacle.

Maybe comparing SC's 3D to that of Captain Marvel and Doctor Strange is setting the bar too high?

Is it likely that we will need to use English subtitles for the entire length of the movie?

You can’t even watch this movie without subtitles unless you understand mandarin. Over half of the movie they speak mandarin.
