Does anyone agree with me in the opinion that Kurosawa was one of the greatest, if not, the greatest man to enter into the art of film?

I prefer Mizoguchi. Sansho the Bailiff on Blu Ray please!

And I'm upset that Jeanne Dielman is getting a DVD release but not a Blu Ray one!

I would like to see at least one more brand new title on Blu-ray before the year is out. So far, we only have In the Realm of the Senses and Last Year at Marienbad.

I will definitely be pre-ordering Kagemusha as soon as it goes up on Amazon.com. Along with Playtime which I saw a clip of in a class...looks so fun!

I've only seen Rashomon and The Seven Samurai, but I can confidently agree with you...Kurosawa is amazing.

Hey, I wonder if KUROsawa will be even better on a KURO???

I had to. I apologize to Japanese cinema and Japan in general.

I must agree about Kenji Mizoguchi. He directed some of the greatest films ever made. His style was more purely japanese, so he is not as well known to foreign audiences (i.e. "US"). I especially would like to see on BD:

Chikamatsu monogatari
Akasen chitai (Street of Shame)
Gion Festival Music
The Life of Oharu
Sansho the Bailiff
Ugetsu monogatari
Utamaro and His Five Women
Women of the Night
The Story of the Last Chrysanthemums

Well with the new announcements today, is this statement still true Beta?

Just pre-ordered the 2 new titles for myself, so I'm all caught up!

Oh, and everything looks better on a KURO!

Kagemusha! I can't believe it!

I don't count that, as I was expecting a Blu-ray. I want another SURPRISE.

it's more fun to check Amazon every day for a low price

Yeah... I know you're right though..... but it's not up for pre-order yet anyways (and I don't need them early.... I can wait for Amazon!)

Criterion.com: $31.96 + $5.95 S&H

Amazon.com: ~ $27.99 + $0.00 S&H

So can I (I'm so cheap!).

My price limit for a Criterion release is about $28 per movie with shipping to Estonia (that's about $6 or $7 from Amazon). So if you see any good offers please send me a message. I would love to add more Criterions to my collection but there just isn't many good deals.

I haven't seen either of the two newly announced titles.

It is nice that Criterion is giving us another Kurosawa replacement, though. (RIP, RAN. ) I know there were a few of you here who predicted that.

Playtime seems like it's very entertaining, but will I miss out on anything having not seen any of the films in that series?

I'm a big fan of Elvis, and man, what a way to just make my day! First of all, Elvis shows up in the forums. Secondly, he's a supporter of blu-ray! And on top of all of that, he seems to be a fan of & support Criterion and their releases!

I knew you couldn't go wrong with liking Elvis! He had some great moves during the song Polk Salad Annie in "That's The Way It Is." I suggest everyone to watch and learn.

Everybody run out and grab a copy of Jailhouse Rock! Great Film and a pretty darn nice Blu to boot. The only drawback is its not a Criterion.

i am hoping they do 8 1/2 around the release on NINE which open either nov/dec the trailer is up on quicktime. Daniel Day Lewis does a great double take in the manner of Marcello Mastroianni.

The trailer looks increidble.

It's funny, the only reaosn I haven't gotten the 400 blows yet is because I actually rented it very recently. I know I want it, but I just saw it (granted on dvd). I just feel like I ought to get the criterion blus I haven't seen first.

I love this forum because I can explain an issue like that an know that people understand me. I need a real life friend who's this into blu/dvd/criterion releases!
