I thought it freaking rocked.

Now for a little mental ******y:

This looks like it could have been a preview for the awesome Empire sequel we never really got. Just replace Boyega with Billy Dee Williams and Ridley with Carrie Fisher and those clips could've been the beginning of their attempt to rescue Han Solo. Seriously, this kind of looks more like what I was expecting back then....sleeker, more urgent than the lazy mess that we ended up with.

Drew McWeeny of Hitfix.com confirms the voice is Andy Serkis.

Quote:
For the record, that is Andy Serkis you hear in the trailer. I was able to verify this, although I was not able to uncover any further information about the role he plays. Here's what I do know, though. He's playing a pivotal role in the film, although he will not have a lot of screen time.

Nonsense. Guns are too quick. You can't savor all the little emotions.

I don't understand the hate for the lightsaber. I mean it's more practical than count dooku's and maul's, and it also solves the problem of locking saber's in a duel.

That might actually be worse because then anything that didn't have an episode number in advertising might make people think it's unimportant and ignore it. This is better.
For once it looks like we disagree Walt

For those of us on sites like this and that follow movies as a hobby/passion/career, we know what this is. But for the general public out there that don't, just hearing the name Star Wars: The Force Awakens does not tell you that it is a new film in the saga. It could be a book, a video game, cartoon, etc. and they don't care that much. Gotta plan for the 'lowest common denominator'.

So I think (for marketing purposes) being touted as Episode VII: The Force Awakens would go a long way at driving awareness/buzz early in the game.

Now...that said...as we get close to the films release, Disney is going to be pushing this sucker hard enough through every outlet they have that it could be called Joe's Burger Shop and people would know it was the new Star Wars movie.

Default Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens (Teaser Trailer Online!)

Everything from here on out is canon, so it'll all be going by Star Wars: [Insert title here]. I think everyone will be able to separate the films, numbers or not. It's just another way to separate from the prequels. As long as it has the Episode number in the crawls, which they will, they'll be able to keep up. It doesn't have to be in the advertising, in my mind at least.

I think you nailed it though. Disney will sell these and people will know exactly what they're getting into by the end. We'll know which movies will be trilogy films, numbers or not in advertising, and which ones are "new stories that expand the universe". It'll be interesting to see how they play the spin-offs...Opening crawls? Who knows. It's a whole new era right now, and we're in uncharted territory in the galaxy far, far away.

The handling of the spin offs is the thing I am most eager to see.

Separating from the main series in the public's mind is going to be tough...but I think The Mouse will figure it out.

So, who are correct and who are wrong, the people who like the saber because it looks cool or the people who dislike it because it isn't practical?

Theres the star fighters flying 5 feet off the water just because its cool. Cool has to come naturally, it feels very forced here.

Also not a fan of the heavy CG camera angles used with the millennium falcon. Im really seeing no difference between Abrams and George Lucas directing. It seems like a CG fest all over again.

This small teaser had more passion in it than any of the blockbusters that I've seen this past summer. I can't wait.

OK, just saw the EP7 teaser trailer - three times. %$#!#@$% Awesome! Wanted to wait until the all the excitement died down before I tried to watch this; I like how it was easily available for everyone without having to search for this - I saw it attached to a CNN.com article, and the picture quality/sound were superb.

In any case, very well-put together teaser! I know somewhere online there probably is a blow-by-blow analysis, but off the top of my head I was very impressed with:

-The anxious-looking stormtrooper without his helmet in the desert...

-The armored?! vehicle full of the new stormtroopers - this design is amazing; I like them better than the clone-trooper outfits; they look more like the original stormtroopers, but more...advanced?!...I guess that's the whole point...

- The woman in the desert outfit driving that large vehicle/speeder.

-The X-wings flying over the water - first time we've ever seen this in the films...

- The Falcon - we knew we were going to see that at some point!

However, my favorite scene was the one with the cloaked character in the dark winter forest...Loved that lightsaber with the light blades?! at the hilt - amazing! We've never seen anything like this before....especially liked the wintry forest, since we've never seen an environment like this in the films either...reminded me somewhat of a scene we'd see in a horror film....this short sequence brought to mind HBO's Game of Thrones....
