For all those folks complaining about the fancy new lightsaber...it's apparently not new at all. Probably one of those EU details that got adapted for the new movie, because it looks all cool and stuff.

Interesting that the teaser trailer just showed the new characters that will heavily feature in this latest trilogy (which apparently includes that 'football' droid). I was originally expecting to see quick glimpses of the OT cast.

The ramblings of haters and complainers aren't ruining my enjoyment of the teaser trailer nor my excitement for the final film, and nobody else should let the whiners win the day either. Whether or not you are bothered by others' comments is your decision, not theirs.

How is the lightsaber not practical? In a close-quarters battle you could jam one of those little blades under your enemies chin pretty quick.

Everything in the trailer is OT with something a bit new.

I like it alot.

I thought the teaser trailer was a great balance/mixture of new and old. It felt familiar and yet new at the same time.

Checking out the internet in the last few hours, regarding the trailer, just reinforces the impression that so many fans just live to complain (seems the most popular things in this regard are the lightsaber and the droid - though I've also heard quite a few complaints about there behind a helmetless Stormtrooper, of all things ).

It was nice that there was about an hour this morning, after the trailer premiered, that seemed like just general excitement and enthusiasm. Reminded me of before the days of the internet, when I would have fun talking about Star Wars with my friends - devoid of cynicism.

That's the thing though. The guy isn't a stormtrooper at all. It's John Boyega and seeing how he's part of the new trio, I'm thinking him, Daisy and Han are on a mission on Tatooine. John's probably wearing a the uniform as a disguise as part of some infiltration mission and his cover is probably blown. Shit's hit the fan and with the forthcoming assault, Daisy's racing off somewhere with Han and Chewie in the Falcon providing aerial support. It's probably the opening of the film.

Also not a fan of the heavy CG camera angles used with the millennium falcon. Im really seeing no difference between Abrams and George Lucas directing. It seems like a CG fest all over again.

At the moment the difference is that JJ is using shaky cam, which for Star Wars, isn't cool....

That being said, it may have been intentional with the Storm Troopers as they don't want to show too much.

We really need to wait and see the whole film before making judgments on the filming style.

What I can;t figure out is that Lucas didn't have to sell off Lucasfilm to Disney. He could have simply funded these new Star Wars films, hired Abrams to come on board, and go that direction with it. We'd still have the films at 20th Century Fox, along with the fanfare music. To be frank, the one thing that I'm going to miss about the new films is the Fox Fanfare music that opens each Star Wars film (Episodes I-VI).

It's sad, but considering all the hate Lucas has been getting for the past 15 years, I don't blame him for wanting to retire and live in peace.
Also, he is married again, and has recently had a baby, so he's moved on.
At least he gave us his final masterpiece with ROTS, so he did go out with a huge bang!

I agree. They really managed to strike a neat balance here.
I especially like the young woman on her speeder. She really looks like Skywalker offspring. She has a remarkable resemblance to Padme.
