Fight Club has its merits to be sure, mainly a great cast. I always felt a bit let down by the "twist" at the end. It's an interesting film to be sure but I've never felt that it deserved the near-hysteria levels of praise that it receives at times. There are better films of that era who did more with less (12 Monkeys, Seven, and Momento come to mind).

It started out as a divisive and misunderstood film. Even critics like Ebert thought it was a pseudo intellectual fascist film.

It become a cult classic after some years, and yeah Memento and Se7en are better but those two are also masterpieces

Nothing Gilliam has done touched Se7en, Zodiac or Fight Club imo.

Brazil and Monty Python might be Gilliam's best films but there's no way in hell they are better than Zodiac or even Gone Girl.

Zodiac might be the best thriller released since Se7en and The Silence Of The Lambs.

I was absolutely obsessed with Time Bandits as a child. I'm actually afraid to rewatch it. I don't want to see that it's aged poorly and have my memory of it tarnished.

James Cameron is a better director than Ridley Scott, and here's why;

Blade Runner is an amazing film, and Alien is also great but i actually think that T2, T1 and Aliens are all better.

Cameron at his worst has Avatar, a solid film and also two great films with Titanic and True Lies, and a good one with The Abyss.

Scott has 2 amazing films, a few good and great films and a lot of turds.

Cameron takes it, in a close choice based on quality vs quantity.

I'm just stating my opinion, just like anyone else on this board.

If we go by "measurables" then Brazil is better than Zodiac.

If we go by what i like, then Zodiac easily takes it.

Can't be more "objective" than this.

You can make a strong argument for Scott but the gap is clearly not that wide.

Cameron is more a genius and innovator, but Ridley has better visual style and had a stronger first decade.

The difference is that Cameron is an auteur because he writes, produces and builds his special effect meanwhile Ridley doesn't do that.

These two moments > Anything in Blade Runner with the exception of Roy Batty's monologue.

Brazil is the second greatest film of all time behind Blade Runner so your post is false.

Blade Runner either is not close to Zodiac or Se7en and i love it.

It's better than Fight Club though.

Based on what is Brazil better? The directing is out of character and while a great film, it's clearly not as interesting or layered as Fincher's.
