Donster is coming over for pancakes next week. We are watching a 4K film on my projector and having a few beers. We are topping the night off with a moonlit rendition of ‘I will always love you’

According to the owner of the place we are staying ETex is offering fiber optic and the latest tech in town, but I won’t know for sure until we get moved in and settled on what that is. I did however just pick up this router thanks to Groot’s advice and Prime Day in preparation
I looked up that Provider ETex, and they offer DSL, Fiber, and Fixed Wireless for their Internet. They also offer Cable TV and Phone Services. DSL comes over your Phone Wiring, and Fiber can connect any number of ways to their equipment. Since they offer Cable TV their Equipment Ports can be Coax or Data RJ45. Your house being built in 1935, probably has the old Daisy Chain Phone Jacks (RJ11,) that multiple from Jack to Jack as opposed to Runs from a Central Location. If it has Coax this was put in later as needed by the owner. If you are going to put in Data Wiring, I suggest getting a Low Voltage Vendor, and to keep the cost down all you need is Cat5e that's rated to Gigabit Speeds. Vilya says it's easy to Run Data Wiring, sure if you just string it anywhere, but to do it right you need some knowledge. When you Wire go from a Central Location and Wire out from there, dropping the Cable in the Walls. At the Central Location you need a Patch Panel with 6+ Ports to connect your equipment.

Well there’s a right way and a wrong way to talk to people and I don’t like how you talk down to people. I’ll leave it there and I suggest you do the same.

Time to get my passport stamped. I love pancakes and beer. Although we should change the song to “Love is a Battlefield.”

Thanks. I appreciate that.

That said, it’s affordable for a lot of people. You can get decent tri-pod screens at staples for $150, the blow ups are around $200 for a 100 inch one from Gemmy. I bought a “drive thru” screen from AliBaba and have been pleased.

Epson has a discount eBay, I bought my first projector there.

Anyone looking to start out it’s a good place to check.

Steels right tho, watching movies in bubbles beats all this.

Thank you for doing all that. While I appreciate all the leg work you’ve done for me, it is totally unnecessary. Since I’ve already said I won’t know what I’ve got until I get in the house and right now this is such a low priority in my long list of things to accomplish.

I can run "data wiring"; it most definitely is an easy task. It isn't quantum mechanics to route a wire from one place to another, even behind the drywall. Anyone who can wire a multi-channel home theater can handle this task.

If you can do it, then it is indeed child's play.

IIRC, it has been mentioned that Oppo is exiting the UHD BD market and that is true. Their exit was used as an example that folks no longer supported physical media. For folks that believe it to be true, care to comment on 3 new high end UHD BD players being brought to market. Panasonic thread here and Pioneer thread here.

The only person who keeps citing Oppo's decision to leave the home video and AUDIO business as a foreboding of doom for physical media is immune to facts and is a complete stranger to reason. More high end 4K disc players coming to market will not change his predictions.

If he doesn't see a product on the sales floor at his local Walmart, then no one is buying said product. If his relations do not own one, then no one does. Sales data means nothing, anecdotes prove everything. Data is "manipulated" when it does not corroborate what he believes.

It would be be easier to engrave a block of granite with a soggy egg noodle than to change his mind with something so irrelevant as facts.

There is a new thread reporting that Walmart might be getting into the subscription streaming business and it would possibly be priced at less than $8 per month. There might also be a free service supported by ads. It will be interesting to see if this actually happens and what effect it will have on existing subscription streaming services.

Darn, you caused me to almost spill my coffee on myself , that has to be one of the comments I have ever read.

I just wanted folks to know there seems to be someone always supplying products that that some of us desire.

It will be interesting to see how the Panny and Pioneer stack up against Oppo. I have a request in to Oppo to provide a feature to select HDR10 when playing Dolby Vision titles so the user can use the video adjustments. Also requested a discrete IR code for direct Nit Adjustment. Oppo responded they would look into providing these features.

I have read your comments over in the Oppo 203 thread. Oppo has such amazing and accommodating customer service; if they can grant your requests, they will.

About the only persistent negative aspect, allegedly, of the Panasonic models have to do with their ability to play and upscale DVDs. I have read a number of comments in the forums here that Panasonic does a rather poor job with DVDs. I would investigate Panasonic thoroughly before buying one.

Sorry about that coffee! Even when I am at my most cantankerous, I do not wish to cause 2nd or 3rd degree burns.

Moved from Panny to LG (several years ago), then added Sony and Oppo. Did this because of poor IP control of the Pannys. LG, Sony and Oppo have much better IP control. With their Android apps I can play my music files (via playlist) from my media server (Synology), no monitor needed. To date, Panasonic has not updated their Android app since 2012 and that one will only do basic remote control functions.

Have no intentions of getting rid of the Oppo . The Sony X800 could possibly be replaced with the Panny but it must prove to be a more capable machine than the X800 and other than DV, it does not appear so. We shall see.

Doesn’t it feel like Walmart is doing its best to compete or catch up with Amazon? I can’t speak for anyone else, but I don’t like that Walmart changed their “Lowest Price Guarantee” to “We only price match Walmart dot com” policy in stores. It has influenced my shopping and made me shop their competition up until the move. The problem here is, they are the only big box in our home town and you have to go to the bigger towns to find both Target and Best Buy. As far as the constant physical media sections shrinking in brick and mortars? I think it has more to do with maximizing space. So we need to stop using that and personal experiences as an argument. Because every store is different depending on where you live and who’s the big dog there.
