I meant what was your budget right now. However from your answer I'm guessing about $240 to maybe $300ish?

It's really a tough question to answer, and ultimately it's up to you. I mean the Monitor 60s would be a definite improvement over your HTiB speakers, but you'd also definitely want to get the matching center. Ultimately, I think you would be the most satisfied if you saved up some more money again and then bought. Or you could look at something like these speakers from Jamo:

Mains:
http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/it..._c=site_search

Center:
http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/it..._c=site_search

Surrounds:
http://www.vanns.com/shop/servlet/it..._c=site_search

You're at a total of $240 with a 5 speaker setup. If you ever upgraded the mains to a set of towers you could move the bookshelves to surround back positions for a 7.1 setup.

Jamo is owned by Klipsch and have been around for quite a while, so I don't think they'll be going anywhere.

Yeah that budget makes it tough but I am willing to wait to finish off the system I just had figured that I would get fronts now and center and sub next then rears last.

With a 300ish budget what speakers would you say I should look at for fronts that I can build off of?

That's a tough question to answer also. What sounds good to me may sound like garbage to you. If you like Polk, take a look at the TSi300 from Newegg for $119 each with free shipping. I suspect they would be a nicer speaker than the Monitor 50.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...dio-_-82290100

If you could possibly squeeze out another $100 then you could step up to the TSi400 (in cherry) for $199 each with free shipping.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-102-_-Product

You should also ask in the speaker forums because you'll get more responses there.

Just got the vsx23 and having a strange problem. I already have the power on problem which I understand is solved by turning kuro link on. I have a 40gb fat ps3 connected to hdmi 1 using the dvd input. With kuro link off it works perfect, but as soon as I turn kuro link on, the hdmi sound and video no longer works. It does not sense the hdmi input. I tried input 2 and 3 also with no luck. Now it does work on the bd hdmi input. I don't understand why it won't work on the other ones.

I do know with Kuro Link, that you need to use HDMI Out 1 for this to work properly.

But in my opinion, you don't want to Kuro Link (HDMI Control) at all. Sometimes the receiver is searching for specific inputs, and if you other equipment is not turned before the receiver and with sufficient enough time before the receiver turns on, it might not sense the device as being there, and thus it defaults to a different input. Just skip Kuro Link (HDMI Control) all together IMO. It is a waste of time and causes more problems than it is worth.

Can anyone tell me how to get LPCM 5.1 (48kHz, 24-bit)to play on the vsx 21? I can get the reciever to show PCM, but the sound is so low I have to jack it up to almost full volume. Appreciate any help. I thought P O T C would've sounded great. It sounds better in dolby digital 5.1 than LPCM 5.1 (48kHz, 24-bit).

What is your blu-ray player, and is it connected via HDMI?

Agreed. Turning Kuro Link off solved an input problem for me.

Default IR Repeaters

Anyone familiar with IR repeaters with our line of receivers? I'm thinking about buying a Salamander AV cabinet, but the doors are solid and would block the signal from my Harmony. They offer an IR repeater accessory that would help...

I know you can buy aftermarket IR repeaters, but I don't know if you can get one directly from Harmony or not. I think a repeater/converter comes with the RF remotes from Harmony, such as the 900 and 1100.

Thanks Steve. I've never had to use a repeater before. Any idea how they connect to our our receivers?

I'm connected on the reciever to the BD connection via HDMI. I'm using a maxnavox bd player that displays PCM when playing a LPCM 5.1 (48kHz, 24-bit) BD.

All the repeaters I've seen receive commands and then relay those commands out over a series of wires. On the ends of these wires are little IR emitters which are attached directly to the IR receivers on your various components. Here's a sample picture. I don't endorse this particluar one. In fact I don't know anything about it. It's just so you can see the various parts of a repeater and the wires I'm talking about. It's just a picture I pulled out of a Google search.

Is the problem just that the volume isn't as loud as other formats?

Again Thanks Steve, for all your help. The other formats have normal volume. LPCM 5.1 (48kHz, 24-bit) is really very low even at max volume. LPCM 5.1 (48kHz, 24-bit) doesn't automatically select like the other formats. The reciever chooses dolby digital stereo.

You're welcome man. I just wish I could be more help. I don't know why a PCM track would sound so much lower than everything else. Are you getting full surround effects with PCM?

Sounds like all the speakers are working but you have to go to each one and listen.
