This is why people are different.

Trying to read the comic book can be tricky anyway. I love the movies for Thor, Captain America, Spiderman, Batman, X-men, but if you are not a comic book fan it's hard to just pick up the comic and read it because:
1. You cant just jump in to a monthly comic without getting back issues.
2. Their famous storylines arent that great anyway. The movie adaptations based around some of the comic book storylines are done so much better on film. Spiderman and Fantasic Four were my favorite comic books when I was a kid but their famous storylines arent that facinating reads.

Now it is easier to get someone into the comic book if it was one short series with an end (Watchmen, V for Vendetta).

While I agree with you, I'm going to nitpick a little. Watchmen and V for Vendetta are considered graphic novels, not comics books.

Characters like batman, the Xmen and wolverine have way more interesting stories within the comics. The films don't have time to show the characters in depth.for instance the character cyclops is a multifaceted leader who has killed professor x and is now considered a terrorist on the run from the avengers. In the xmen films he's a throw away. Sounds like you're just not really into comics. It is my personal belief that you are selling yourself short as a marvel fan if you just know the films because you don't really know the characters at all. Especially in the case of the xmen

I'm glad to hear there are some new good stories. I grew up in the 80s and 90s and most of the famous stories are overrated:
1. Spiderman (throwing away his suit, the venom storyline, Harry going nuts, death of gwen stacey). My favorite storylines are Kraven's Last Hunt and the Ned Leeds/Hobgoblin/Kingpin/The Rose storylines but I dont think they would be that interesting in a film. I do like the Superior Spiderman storyline now though.
2. Regarding DC, I was never crazy about The Dark Kight Returns, Long Halloween, Hush, a Death in the Family, Year 1, The Killing Joke, Death of Superman, Green Lantern/Green Arrow 1970s team up, not one Wonder Woman book.
3. Regarding X-Men, Im sick to death of the Senator Kelly anti-mutants storyline, the past and future storyline (the one that they are finally doing in the next X-Men film), The Dark Phoenix storyline.
4. Regarding Fantastic Four, I have read all the John Bryne storylines, nothing too memorable.
5. Justice League - the Crisis books? What a mish mosh.
6. Demon in the Bottle? Civil War? Ultimate Avengers? Secret War? Secret Wars? meh.

As an adult, I do love many of the Silver Surfer storylines though.

Don't get me wrong, I love all the main Marvel and DC superheroes and I do enjoy reading comic books. But when it comes to gripping storytelling for the mainstream superheroes, I've only been impressed with Kingdom Come, Justice, Squadron Supreme: Utopia, and Rebirth of Thanos/Infinity Gauntlet. I guess im picky.

they have with me, granted I've only read the tie in's and a couple of Iron Man GN's (collected comic book things...is GN still applicable? The physical format is the same as some GN's a DO own)

I dont see it the same.

Its only if a movie is based on part of a series - like if the only made the Hobbit movie and no LOTR's or if only one Harry Potter movie was made instead of movies for all 7 books, ie the whole 'world' of the characters isnt translated to as Movie. It would certainly perk my interest in learning more and knowing more stories from the same characters/worlds.

Plus I always like to compare the books vs movies.

i'd be more apt to get a massive collection of Iron Man comics or the entire Civil War series in 1 book so i don't have to try and jump from one to the next.

I understand what you're saying. A lot of the larger comc events are often lame let downs but I was just speaking on not only the larger tie ins with marvel/dc books but the normal weeklys as often they are less dense and much easier for a casual reader to jump into. Been reading comics for years and infinity still was a head scratcher for me. Too many damn avengers for me.

That's the better option by far. The volumes are always cheaper than individual issues.

Yeah, I buy the odd graphic novel here and there if it looks interesting or if I heard good things. Don't have the patience to collect every issue.

Especially now when it all seems like every hero has five titles running and the individual books seem so small in content. Used to collect back in the day until it became a bother.

Besides, there are plenty filler comics that don't really have anything interesting going on. A movie could take elements of many different storylines and combine them into something more interesting.

Totally agree. I think sometimes they try to cram too much into one movie and that is a perfect example. Wolverine could have had 3 or 4 movies before even getting to the point where he is with the XMen.

Much like how Spiderman 3 ruined Venom by just throwing him in there because he is the guy fans wanted to see.

Spiderman 3's venom was the ultimate fail. I want a carnage venom movie where they look and act like their comic counterparts. Carnage is a simple character who would translate well into a horror/superhero film hybrid.

You can't judge the whole film on a quick clip that was shot in two hours to tease what's to come. That would be ridiculous. The film itself will be much better than that.
