Oh, nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo...

I bought that Hitchcock box, too... Damn, I don't believe it, It has the same issue as the Creature disc?

Sony, PLEASE, send me a new firmware, for God's sake!

I love Dial M for Muder, and I don't want to watch it with those issues!

Damn!!! ¬¬

Received my copy yesterday. Creature played fine. I thought the packaging was kind of cheap though. The cards were bound by a rubber band. Couldn't they put it in an envelope? The same goes for the book. They should have made it hardcover or put it in the envelope.

Same as the price? I would have liked a more elegant solution for the cards too, but at 34GBP for a boatload of nicely restored classics and great extras, I think I got more than I paid for.

I see your point, but I still think including an envelope wouldn't put Universal out of business.

The replacement set arrived yesterday, and the Creature disc was spotless & played perfectly in my player. I actually sent back the replacement set with the faulty disc (original case was in slightly better condition). The Collect+ thing was painless too, I just dropped it off at a newsagents and got a receipt with the tracking code on it. So within a few days Amazon should have it and I won't be charged twice lol

Check around the house, maybe you have a spare card with an envelope you could use. Or even just take the poster-cards with you to a card shop

Well, I already watched almost all the movies along with the extras - only The Wolf Man and the spanish version of Dracula are still waiting to be seen. And The Creature was the only one with playback issues.

I'm still waiting for a new firmware update from Sony.

About what people said about the packaging, well, I am almost completely satisfied. But I think the cards should be like the ones in the Hitchcock set, with information on the back - the envelope idea was pretty good, too.

About the booklet, well, the Stanley Kubrick set from Warner brought the booklet with hardcover, but I'm satisfied with this one.

Is Spanish Dracula a completely different film or is it just the US dubbed in Spanish?

Completely different. The Spanish crew used the same sets, but with different cast, filming at night.

That's right.

And both movies are worth watching.

The American one is almost a silent movie. It's not so well directed, but it has Bela Lugosi - in my opinion, the best Dracula EVER!! (sorry, Gary Oldman).

The spanish one is much more refined, but the actor who played Dracula looks like a character from El Chavo Del Ocho.

If Lugosi had been directed by the spanish crew, the spanish version would be a classic.

I still don't know which of these movies is my favorite, but it may be The Invisible Man. The weakest one is The Phantom of the Opera, for sure - the movie is good, but it's no match for the Lon Chaney version.

My opinion, of course.

Just tried the Dial M For Murder disc (skipping through) and around an hour in I'm getting exactly the same issues as I have with the Creature From The Black Lagoon disc - sound drop-out, sound judder and slight picture dragging.

I suppose it could be coincidence but I think it's my machine (and some others I guess) having an issue with discs that have both 2D and 3D content on them, although why that should be I have no idea (no technical expert!)
I watched Creature a couple of days ago on my Samsung player that never has problems with anything and I had the same problems you have. (Luckily I've got another player where it played without any problems)

Watched Dial M today and that worked perfectly though.

Well, I hope my Dial M for Murder plays fine on my machine, too. I haven't received it yet.

Well, I got my Dial M for Murder. ¬¬

Damn, it really does have the same issue as the Creature disc. So, no doubt about it, it really is a firmware problem. It didn't crack up as much as the Creature disc did, but it was very distracting.

Sony, for God's sake, release a new firmware, pleaaaaaaaaaaase!!!

So do I, although I wonder how exactly they'd do it.

They could do a number of sets each containing a few sequels in order of release, or a "Frankenstein" set, a "Dracula" set and "A bunch of the other monsters" set.

Of course there's no guarantee they have any intention of releasing any of them...

I'm hoping they'll release a vol 2 box with the sequels later this year. I'm so glad I bought the box for £22.50 in the Amazon Black Friday deals.

Here's my list. Open to debate, of course.

The Black Cat (1941)
Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man (1943)
Son of Dracula (1943)
The Invisible Man's Revenge (1944)
The Mummy's Ghost (1944)
She-Wolf of London (1946)
Revenge of the Creature (1955)
This Island Earth (1955)
The Mole People (1956)

My list:

The Son Of Frankenstein
The Ghost Of Frankenstein
Frankenstein Meets The Wolfman
The Son Of Dracula
The Black Cat
House Of Frankenstein
House Of Dracula
The Mummy's Hand
& the three other Mummy films, they're cheapo & only an hour long (they all start with a lot of flashbacks, so maybe only 50mins long), but I like 'em.

I'd hope films like, This Island Earth, It Came From Outer Space, Revenge Of The Creature ect. would be part of a 50's science fiction box.

I include This Island Earth (1955) and The Mole People (1956), because I've always thought of The Mole Man and the Metalunan Mutant to be the last two of the classic Universal Monsters.

I'd like to see Tower of London in a subsequent box set. It's not exactly horror but I think it fits in nicely with things like The Black Cat.

We should have Dracula's Daughter and The Raven in there too.

And, above all, I'd love to see The Old Dark House on Blu-ray.
