Read the Halloween thread if you want brain blown on that subject matter.

If you respect what an artist does, and we are working on the auteur theory here, then yes. What the hell is the point of the artist if they don't create personal pieces of art that fulfill their vision? Some are okay with not being able to fulfill their vision and have no desire to revise their work. The art stands as it is. Others want that art to be what they imagined and do so when given the opportunity. They are not under any obligation to present to previous version (although I personally think they should, such as Ridley Scott does).

Revising a piece of art is nothing new. And in the case of Scanners there is a version of the film available that is to your liking. There isn't much need for a stink to be raised here.

No one says you have to like this Criterion edition, all you have to do is accept this is what Cronenberg wants, and as he is the author of this film, it is his vision and should be accepted as such.

And as it has been mentioned in this thread, film is the possibly the most collaborative art. There are a lot of people shaping how it looks, and there are release dates to hit. Most other art does not work this way. Most artists are allowed to finish their work when they fell it is perfect and finished. Film doesn't work like that pretty much ever. Some directors are happy with what is initially released to the theaters, but some are not. And if they are given the opportunity to present their film they way they want it, they should be able to.

Oh good God. Really? This is what this thread has degenerated into?

Just finished it. Thought it looked great. Hadn't seen the movie in years but thoroughly enjoyed it.

I swear, you'd think some people on here break out the Spectrum Analyzer every time they watch a movie...

If I can watch the movie from beginning to end and not find the picture distracting in any way then I'm a happy camper, bottom line.

You guys want to b*tch about color scheme mucking? Where were you during the Night of the Living Dead thread?

Give that movie a break! It was color graded over a telephone.

You really think every single one of us wasn't b*tching in that thread, too?

I don't know if you actually read the NOTLD thread but there were a LOT of people complaining (rightfully) about that mess.

Just watched this movie on Showtime HD, colors and contrast looked better than any of the Blu-ray screencaps I've seen.

I could actually make out the RSO balloon in the record store, the screencaps make the scene appear to be taking place outside.

You can clearly make out the RSO letters on the balloon on the Criterion BD.

Glad you enjoyed the film though.

Yeah, keep in mind that viewing screen shots on a PC monitor doesn't always represent how a movie will look on a properly calibrated TV set.

Not true for my screen captures unless the person viewing them is using an uncalibrated monitor.

I think it's becoming obvious that a lot of people don't have properly calibrated PC monitors.

The capture method is a complicated mess and I don't think we're allowed to discuss it here.
