I just received my set and it is absolutely glorious. Best $166 Australian I have spent on a BluRay TV show. I am rewatching Deadwood atm (season 2 right now) but I will smash out The Shield after that. Speaking of which, if Sony think that we need saving from Aceveda getting assaulted then I present them with Al Swearengen passing a kidney stone. I have never squirmed that much watching something on TV before lol.
Not that it is a big deal but I would have liked to have seen Anthony Anderson, Glenn Close and Forest Whitaker’s names make it onto the back page of the booklet in the “Special Thanks” section. Autumn Chiklis was left off too. For good reason Michael Jace was left off the list. Last edited by JHCubs; 01-07-2019 at 12:40 AM. |

The change in composition works for some scenes over the OAR and vice versa. I will state though that the OAR did create a bit more tension for me because it "boxed" in the characters visually. Regardless, the transfer is fine the scenes that are censored don't impact the dramatic intent one bit--what happens STILL happens as to how graphic it is, it's how the characters play the scene that matter to me and they work without the additional shots either way. |

I've been trying to get myself up to speed by reading through the past few pages of content since the boxsets release, but just had a few questions for those who have the set:
Is it definitely region free? What is the picture and sound quality like over the DVDs (there has been hardly any discussion of this at all)? And I know there is talk of edits (for violent scenes perhaps?), but I'm just delighted we are finally getting the full version of "Postpartum" this time (which here in the UK and Ireland was trimmed by 20 minutes for the dvds!). |

The picture quality is fine. Grainy in part but nicer than the DVD’s for sure. I have only tested this out (not actually watching the show yet) but as far as testing out the last disc of season 5 it is fine. Postpartum runs for 69 minutes and 53 seconds. The sound is very nice and crisp. The picture quality is about the same as Friday Night Lights imo. Last edited by JHCubs; 01-07-2019 at 10:08 PM. |

Again, there's no argument that puts me in the wrong, because I see it over and over. One change is no different than any other changes. Bottom line, it should be presented AS SHOT AND AIRED, so that means full episodes AND original aspect ratio. If you don't agree then you don't get to pick and choose what's "important" when it comes to the integrity fo an episode. Aspect ratio is just as valuable as content, because it all serves an artistic purpose. Quote:
And yes, boxy was beer, because it created tension (and not to mention, that was the way the shot was composed for broadcast, which would 100% always be maintained, whether it be film or TV). Last edited by Bates_Motel; 01-07-2019 at 10:23 PM. |

And the postpartum edit was particularly annoying when I saw the series on tv first. I didn't realise there had been any edits till these new scenes appeared briefly in the season 6 premier's "previously on" recap!!! |

Sony did a good job with the look and sound of the show. And Mill Creek did a very good job with the way the set is packaged. The edits are disappointing but hopefully that gets resolved. If we just get an apology and nothing more, I will still be happy with what we’ve got. |

I just started watching the new Lethal Weapon series (binged watched Season 1 in about 3 days), and I love it, which reminds me on how the Shield also used L.A. as a character in the series as well. I have the DVD set, but never got around to watching S6 & 7. Because I heard this project was in the works. So i need to pick this up once I can fit it into my budget.

I just finished the first disc of season 1. I must say that the picture quality is very nice. I said the other day that The Shield BluRay looks similar to Friday Night Lights (off the back of playing a disc for a minute) but after an extended viewing I would say The Shield looks nicer IMO. The sound is nice too. Heaps of special features. Region-free.
![]() The first few episodes have reminded me how great this series was. Vic Mackey is a badass. |
