I don't even have 4K, I just find it odd that they're reviewing the quality of a DV encoded disc without even having the equipment available to view it that way.

I've just read the site review and I can't believe what they're saying about the 4K not being much of an upgrade over the blu. I watched the 4K first then stuck the blu in for a few scenes as a quick comparison and I thought it was a huge difference. The blu ray looked really soft and dull in comparison. What on earth is the reviewer talking about?

That reviewer should get fired for that review. It's just objectively wrong, the difference between the 4k and Blu is quite substantial. HDR colors and shadows are so much better in every way, how is that subtle? Must be Pennywise playing tricks on his brain apparently.

I think fired is a bit extreme, but they should probably assign him just regular Blu-ray reviews until he gets the proper equipment or until he gets more experience with this format.

Lately they've been skipping or delaying reviews so maybe it's a common problem here and they need to update they gear pronto?

Guys, the reviewers don't have Dolby Vision equipment yet. Don't take their reviews seriously.

I haven't seen this disc yet but I saw the film at the cinema and enjoyed it a lot so I will be picking it up when it goes (hopefully) into a 2 for £30 or similar. But what I found funny about the review is that Michael Reuben starts by warning that the disc hasn't provided the minute increase in visible detail that you can get from other 2K DI's when they make the jump to a 4K disc, but then reels off about 40 examples of how the disc is better than the BD

I watched IT on my 4K TV but my TV doesn't have HDR. It was still noticeably better than HD but how much am I missing out on not having the extra HDR?

Yeah well, Dolby Vision is quite frankly a pain the ass and needs to go away, IMO. They should just get behind HDR-10 or whatever and stick to ONE HDR format. If that ends up being Dolby Vision then fine but right now it seems that DV is a huge headache. Only a few mfgers support it and the ones that do have disc & equipment issues.

Its a mess.

Can't belive that a OLED E6 user like me is saying such ridiculous thing... More even when HDR10 in our 2016 TV looks like SHIT due Tone Mapping while DV looks perfect (aside the Raised blacks, which have been already announced that will be fixed on 2016/17)..

That honestly has zero to do with anything. At all. It’s a better disc, HDR10 and all. This isn’t minimally better than the Blu-ray. This is merely a case of the reviewer just being way off base. Like, Id respect a 3/5 score if I could understand where the reviewer was coming from. Some discs and their Pq are divisive and understandably so... take T2 for example. It’s a tragedy but I can see why some may think it isn’t so bad. But I just don’t get it in this case.

This review seems crazy, but I wouldn't know in truth. Maybe it's just a case of the guy was tired and sat further away and wasn't into the review IDK. Sometimes with 2K stuff you have be watching.

Now people saying this is reference what are you even smoking? It's not even 4K native lol. This is not reference. Argument over.

This fallacy again? I mean, it’s your own opinion in regards to whether this is actually a 5/5 knockout reference disc, but if your thought process is ‘Hahaha it’s a 2K native what are you smoking’, then you’re way, way, way off the mark. I’m not even to go through the reasons why as it’s been said a million times before, even by myself. I’ll just say that 4K native isn’t always the preferred presentation for many. John Wick and John Wick 2 are great examples of this.

It is odd that after such a long time that they still haven't been able to upgrade their system to be able to review DV capable discs.

But to be fair, they post the disclaimer right along with the PQ review.

Either way, I don't follow any one reviewer. I personally don't mind that this reviewer only does HDR. I'm still waiting for Sony to let me watch my DV capable discs. Other sites ONLY review DV, so it's nice to have someone who reviews the HDR portion of these discs. Obviously, it would be great if a review(er) could provide both.

I only got into UHD a little while ago and have seen about 20 discs and IT was one of the few that really stood out as impressive.

It's a ridiculous notion to think that DV would raise the PQ score in any meaningful way. I've yet to hear of a single film where DV blows away its HDR 10 counterpart.

I read this site's review last night and almost went into shock. I couldn't believe what I was reading. Came in here today to make sure I wasn't crazy. Glad to know the guys in white coats can be called off.

Keep in mind that many of the reviewers upgraded their panels with the dawn of 4K and most likely spent a small fortune on their panels and they probably don’t want to upgrade again. I’m not surprised some don’t have panels which feature DV or even a decent HDR set. I also know the reviewers set is pro calibrated and if my memory serves me it was calibrated at the very beginning of the UHD disc launch so who knows what’s going on there. I’m not defending the review either, I think a 3 star rating is ridiculous. Also, you don’t need an OLED to enjoy the benefits of this format. And to be honest unless your OLED is calibrated I wouldn’t even take it serious. The out of box picture settings are way off. I’ve seen better greyscale on $700 1080p projector. I know from experience. And im not bashing OLED’s either. A calibrated OLED is a thing of beauty. Incredible PQ. Hell any decent 4K panel with decent HDR capability’s and decent color volume can look stunning... if setup properly and viewed in the right environment. I only watch 4K in a completely dark room with painted black ceiling and side walls. My set is mid tier too, but the picture gives me goosebumps it’s so yummy. Same can be said for audio setup and calibration. I have friends that spent 3 times what I paid for my speakers and they don’t sound nearly as good as mine because when they bought them they plopped them down anywhere and celebrated. Oh and DV is great but but it doesn’t automatically make a disc good. I’ll take a Sony catalogue disc with lowly HDR10 any day of the week.

To play devil's advocate, it is a pain in the ass that hardly any UHD BD players support Dolby Vision.

I made it a point when upgrading my HT to get a display that could accommodate DV (a 65" LG B7), and an AVR that could accommodate DV out of the box (a Marantz SR-6012). However, my only options for DV right now in a player are literally limited to two Oppo models (or a generally disliked LG with discontinued firmware).

It's hard for me to blame reviewers when the manufacturers behind virtually every UHD BD player on the market are unwilling or unable to support Dolby Vision right now ("firmware update coming soon!" or models that aren't on shelves right now don't count), especially when the Oppo comes at a massive premium over the competition.

Count me in as another who believes that the 4K review is totally off-base.

And I have had issues with reviews on this site before - I'm in shock when a reviewer gives a high score to a bitrate-starved Warner Bros. title which looks compressed as all hell (4.5 stars for Legends of Tomorrow S2?) while being less complimentary to great-looking 4K discs like IT.

Normally if I want opinions on a disc's picture quality, I'll scan the review before turning to the forums to see what the good people think.

I'm curious if anyone would react if there were no scores, just the review?
Anyway a quick look tells me this one looks allright considering it's WB. The cinematography has a slight vintage look to it. And there's softness too as it's an upscale. It is one of the best WB releases so far but hardly a top 10 overall for me. But I reserve my final judgment when I've seen the rest of IT.
