Could probably get it for $15 or less in the Arrow sale right now off of Zavvi .com. Pretty sure it's region A friendly as well. 2 for £15 sale going on right now.

Hope they're prepping this for a 4k release and moving existing stock.

Do all the extras have subtitles? Especially the documentaries, Mark the beast, and Beware the moon?

I’m tempted to buy Arrow's An American Werewolf in London: standard edition. I already have the 2016 Restored Edition. Is it worth double-dipping/upgrading to Arrow’s, especially when it comes to the picture quality?

Thanks in advance.

Arrow's work was done in 2k from a 4k scan, so any UHD would likely be using Universal's botched 6k scan.

Even though Arrow's own master was done at 2k SDR from Universal's raw 6k scan, Universal's smeary master from that same raw source was finished in a 4k SDR workflow. If Uni sees the urge to put out a UHD themselves, they would ether do a HDR pass on that existing DNR'd 4k master, or do a completely new one with grain intact and HDR/DV from the start. Ether way, they would have to get John Landis' approval due to DGA rules, which during COVID-19 would be very difficult given most transfer facilities are still closed or at limited operation.

Oh man, I never even considered that Universal did not do a HDR grade on their work.

According to this French site, it will be released in November:

looks like even more botched release as its not coming from nor Arrow or Universal , where exactly are they getting a negative from. looks it will be a 4k upscale from one of the blu ray releases with HDR over the top. id expect the official release to be out next year with it being the movies 40th Anniversary

Just saw the French UHD listing. It appears the French label or contacts tied to them got access to Universal's raw 6k scan, and did the finessing work and HDR grading themselves. They most probably got this all done before COVID shut things down as Landis would have to approve whatever HDR grading was done (like how he oversaw Arrow's transfer for their release) due to DGA rules.

I'm also sure it won't have the original English mono, but it lists the DTS-MA Eng 5.1 only. Unless French label were smart enough and aware enough of the issue to get the corrected 5.1 mix or lower the pitch on the Uni supplied track they might already have, then we'd probably end up getting the botched 5.1 mix supplied by Universal.

No doubt it would likely have a French mono track in addition to the French 5.1 mix.

Where did you get that information or is that just speculation?.. Personally id rather go for the arrow master over the Universal one.. Universal got it wrong on both occasions the original was just the DVD master for the 2001 DVD release that was used for the Full Moon edition.. the colour grading and defects where identical. The restored version was just over processed crap that they clearly DNR'd and used some form of sharpening or edge enhancement which they re-colour graded( I'm pretty sure it was the version that Landis said no to in one of his interviews which they decided to release later). The arrow one has been done right both the image quality and the colour is spot on and should be used as the master for future releases .

The SDR Arrow master won't mean much when it comes to the HDR, it will have to be graded again.

Agreed but for a Blu Ray the colours were more natural.. With the restored edition they boosted the colours too much to make it too colourful

The ARROW release looks very nice. The original mono audio track is also much appreciated. Very happy with my copy.

Hope UNIVERSAL has the good sense to also include the original mono audio track for the 4K release.
[Show spoiler]Probably not.

Question

Standard edition down to $18.99 @ Amazon. Hmmm....

I know the standard doesn't come w/ the book / cards / poster. Instead of the large slipbox, will it come w/ a slipcover? Does it still have reversible art?

I'm getting ready for a massive, month-plus werewolf marathon, since this Halloween is a full moon. I have the previous Universal restored release, which I'm happy with. Just trying to decide if more extras, slightly improved video, and original mono are worth the upgrade, or if a UHD is in the offing.

It does have a reversible cover, but no slipcover as far as I'm aware.

Nope: https://www.dvdfr.com/dvd/f300639-lo...t=autocomplete

Mind you that those specs might be wrong, but I think they are correct, since they were added only later (I was keeping track).
