I saw your post it seems like a an issue over the web...guess it's time to buy a 360 Elite. I have no warranty and cannot justify paying $150 to fix it when i just can but a completely new system not another PS3 for $299. Just spent over $100 on two games i have to bring back now.

Yeah but a 360 Elite will not play my 30+ blu-ray movies I have (the PS3 is/was the sole BD player in my house)

Does "blinking green about 3 times, yellow once or twice, and then red constantly" count as ylod? And for those who sent theirs in for service, how long did it take?

Yeah, if it shows yellow at all followed by red blinking, that is the YLOD

Thanks, now if somebody could tell me how long this'll take to have repaired, that'd be great. If it's too long, I'm going to go find a slim somewhere.

There is a link on the 1st post of this thread of a guy on ebay that will fix your specific unit for $90 shipped (you also have to pay for shipping to him)

Sony is $150 and you most likely do not get back the same unit

See then that doesn't seem at all worth it to me as my 60GB launch unit is special. All I want right now is my game data and game downloads. Could somebody answer me this? Can I take my HDD out and put it into the slim with everything intact?

Nope, switching the HDD to a different PS3 will require a format and it will delete everything. I have the same problem you have right now. I will either send it to the electronic guy at eBay or I'll fix it myself.

Okay, what you should do it go to the PS3's 'Secret Menu'. To do this, turn off your PS3 and hold down the power button until you hear multiple beeps. If it doesn't come the first time, power off and try again.

Once you are there, select the 3rd option I believe to rebuild the database or whatnot.

If you have any questions while doing it, let me know.
Thats what i did when it happened. It did'nt help. The games will still freeze up within 5min or will play but no music when bad guys are near you on RE 5.

Sounds like it could be a laser issue, but I'd contact Sony.

I have endless amounts of downloadable games and DLC. If I were to get a new PS3, is there a way to retrieve all of that without having to pay for it all again? I'm willing to work for all my game data again. It's only a few games anyways.

Yes. You can re-dl it all from your psn store list. It keeps track of what you got.

I'm only going to bother this thread one more time. I've got a disc in my "dead" PS3. When I push eject, I just get more of the same. Does anybody know how I can take it out?

Well, you can just follow my laser replacement guide which opens the Blu-ray drive.

Default Technical Question: Reseting the PS3

I just bought and hooked up a Slim PS3 but now I can't get my old 60Gb PS3 to work on my upstairs TV. It worked fine on my 1080p set downstairs but not my 720p set upstairs. It's just a blank screen. My question is, do I have to reset the PS3 to recognize 720p or should it do that on its own accord?

It's a newer LG 720p set using HDMI which works for the DVR so it's not the cable or TV.

Btw, anyone else love how quiet and light the Slim is compared to the older, heavier PS3's? Nice.

Best bet is to hold the power button the 60gb while it's powering up. It may be trying to output 1080p and your tv isn't taking it. Just reset it and you'll be fine.
