Also got The Funhouse which someone in this thread was ragging on but a generic slasher sounds fun to me as I love the tropes of the genre. I'm hoping for many a boob and bad special effect.

The other was Deadly Blessing which appears to have this thread conflicted.
I watched The Funhouse before the Arrow release, and thought it was very boring. I can't imagine you like it much. Theres a few tits and bad special effects, but without any charm or excitement. Haven't seen the Deadly Blessing film so can't comment on that one.

I didnt rate it the first time. I enjoyed it a lot more the second and I found the commentary tracks for informing, especially the Callum Waddall one.

Can't believe others are getting thanks tags despite more or less repeating what I just said while I don't get any thanks whatsoever...

I had the old CIC Video release from back in the day. It was part of a horror collection which included Friday the 13th Part III and Friday the 13th: The Final chapter (red and black spine).

I can't say I ever enjoyed it. While I have fond memories of getting it and watching it that first time, it certainly wasn't good enough to warrant a DVD upgrade (if there was one) to me, let alone Blu-ray. While I'm sure a lot of attention has been given to the release, no amount of special features would get me to re-buy it.

Quite surprised at all the negativity being thrown at The Funhouse, always enjoyed it. The Arrow release is fantastic.

Certainly one of Hooper's better flicks.

Yeah don't get it either. And to say this is boring when compared to sleep inducing Deadly Blessing. WTF?

It's been noted as a cure for insomnia.

That's, like, your opinion, man...

Seriously, I have always found it rather dull. Probably because I find the monster annoying. But I have to admit that when I watched a pristine 35mm print of it last year, I was pretty well entertained. It will never be one of my favorite among Tobe Hooper's, but I should really give it a chance on BD one day if I find a cheap copy.

If you enjoyed an old VHS release then maybe the new transfer will be a revelation and heighten your enjoyment, I dunno. But yeah, it's certainly not the type of film i'd have Arrow upgrade, but it does seem it have it's fans. Why I don't know.

Yeah, I haven't heard good things about it and it doesn't sound appealing to me at all. Craven shows flashes of brilliance from time to time, (Scream, A Nightmare On Elm Street, New Nightmare, maybe The People Under The Stairs), but he is far too inconsistent and can be very boring without the help of a sharp screenplay.

I got the dvd version of Deadly Blessing in a sale years ago, and wouldn't upgrade it. It's ok - the spider scene, Michael Berryman, Borgnine's beard - but I prefer The Funhouse. Much more enjoyable.

Just going to have an Arrow double bill of White of the Eye and Lifeforce

The only thing that spoils Deadly Blessing is the producer imposed coda. If you switch the film off before the final scene it's much better.

Wes Craven >>> Tobe Hooper

The Funhouse is one of my favourite films that Arrow have released. I was surprised by just how great the film looks, and I don't mean in a restoration way, but the cinematography is something else for a film I had initially pinned as "just another American slasher". Love the opening section too, reminded me of Blow Out.

So many conflicting opinions haha. I wish I had more time for movies so I could get them watched and compare. Gets me really excited though, can't be worse than Sisters as far as blind buys go... could it?

Whilst I largely agree with the comments regarding Deadly Blessing, I'm with Adam when it comes to The Funhouse. The film is a visual delight with a great use of Bava like colour. I think if Bava or Argento had directed it, people would feel quite differently.

Well here's my opinions:

The Funhouse - Very slow burn, but very well shot, and very tense. Overall sadly, a bit boring

Deadly Blessing - Decent little horror, I enjoyed it The ending was stupid as hell though

Sisters - Not too hot second half, but a good premise and very well made.
