And the one major thing they do have, Luke going AWOL, was taken to the nth degree by the person who made the next film and caused a backlash unlike nothing I've ever seen in Star Wars fandom. Just....meh, they're not worth all this.

At least the prequels have all that metaphor and subtext going on amongst the tin-eared dialogue and farting CG animals, they're smart movies dumbly made whereas the sequels are dumb movies smartly made, mostly, as the only one of the three that dared to have a social conscience was dismissed as a pandering SJW mouthpiece.
We disagree on the use of teal color grading, but boy do we agree on Star Wars. Excellent points, sir.

The Sith were officially "extinct" for over a thousand years. Can's been open for some time.

Oh, shit. Oh. Shit. I've done it now. Prepare for a barrage of YouTube videos or walls of text copied and pasted from other webshites defending TFA's honour.

To be fair, the OT had plenty of goofiness too, like the burping creature outside Jabba’s palace. Is a farting CG creature worse than a burping puppet though? It’s the question of the ages.

I thought they were quietly hiding during that time, waiting for their revenge, and were only thought to be extinct? That’s different from managing to resurrect yourself if you’re destroyed, which in turn makes their death have no real finality or real stakes, because they can just come back.

The Darth Plagueis story in ROTS does kind of foreshadow the idea that Palpatine could find a way to cheat death. So, it's not completely out of nowhere.

Maybe Palps made it up, just to entice Anakin.

Yes, of course. But considering Anakin’s turn is all based around being enticed by Palpatine’s story of cheating death, it seems very convenient, no?

It is considered canon that Plagueis was Sidious's master.

I'm still convinced that the only part of that story that was true, was him being his apprentice.

The rest was made up in order to manipulate Anakin.

For what it’s worth, that burping frog was not in the original version. It was added in 1997, I believe.

Nope, it was always cut off on Pan and Scan/Full Screen versions. It was always there. We just never saw it until we got widescreen VHS or in the cinema

I’m pretty sure it was in the original theatrical version of ROTJ, it wasn’t added later.
