To be fair, the OT had plenty of goofiness too, like the burping creature outside Jabba’s palace. Is a farting CG creature worse than a burping puppet though? It’s the question of the ages.

I thought they were quietly hiding during that time, waiting for their revenge, and were only thought to be extinct? That’s different from managing to resurrect yourself if you’re destroyed, which in turn makes their death have no real finality or real stakes, because they can just come back.

The Darth Plagueis story in ROTS does kind of foreshadow the idea that Palpatine could find a way to cheat death. So, it's not completely out of nowhere.

For what it’s worth, that burping frog was not in the original version. It was added in 1997, I believe.

Nope, it was always cut off on Pan and Scan/Full Screen versions. It was always there. We just never saw it until we got widescreen VHS or in the cinema

I’m pretty sure it was in the original theatrical version of ROTJ, it wasn’t added later.
