Dennis Hopper is one of my fav American Directors of all time (not just actor). I hope Out Of The Blue gets a release it deserves. RIP Dennis.

He was a good actor. I enjoyed his movies. At least he is not in pain anymore.

This makes me want to open up a facebook account to ask Criterion to release OUT OF THE BLUE.

Here is the trailer I found on youtube for anyone who hasn't seen it:

That is the first time I have ever heard of the movie. I know I wasn't asleep during the 80's. lol I am surprised this is new to me.

Well it was made late 70's and I think never released in America (only Canada). Got a huge buzz, but the U.S. never picked it up.

I hope someone can request this on facebook. You won't be disappointed if you like the punk scene and Dennis Hopper actor/director films. His performance and directing is John Cassavetes-ish.

It was made in 1980. Not being released in the U.S. explains why I hadn't heard of it until today. Thanks for posting the trailer. It looks like a movie I would watch theme wise. I never did like punk rock though. lol

It came out 1980. It was like the Shining and such. Was made in 1979, came out 1980 (both released May 1980). But either way, this movie needs a release other than the $2 cheap dvds that is out with crappy vhs transfers.

Not true. Anchor Bay put out an excellent version with a wonderful picture.

The extras are wonderful too, if I remember correctly.

That's discontinued. You can only get those $1 bin ones. Also that Anchor Bay one only has a trailer and commentary. I think Criterion would do a better job with Hopper's best film.

Have you seen the film? I am glad someone else knows about it on here. Easy Rider is the cap on the 60's and this film is that for the 70's.

Yes. I thought it was good, albeit a little depressing. Hopper was very good in a directorial sense and I believe it should reach a wider audience. I do agree that Criterion releasing this movie would reach the niche of audience that would appreciate a film like this. Maybe you should sign up on facebook...

It's tempting but Facebook is a thing that I am against. I left an e-mail from Criterion's website where you can E-mail suggestions on titles.

Just in case no one has posted:

Antichrist will be on IFC June 3rd at 12AM, so if you want to see it, heres your chance. I'm glad IFC is showing it because their HD channel is noticeably better than most others and they preserve aspect ratios, which is something HBO never does and it pisses me off.

EDIT: Also showing June 27th at the same time.

Oh, I'm gonna have to completely burst your bubble about IFC HD. They are known to show films in the wrong aspect ratio. Many times I've recorded movies to watch later, and I always look up the ORA when I start the film just to make sure. The last debacle I saw was when they recently showed Peter Weir's "The Last Wave" in a stretched 2.35:1 ratio instead of its 1.77:1 ratio. Sorry, but it's the truth.

I might watch it one of those days. So far I've watched it just once on my computer where I downloaded it. I really hated the film the first time. But who knows, maybe it's one of those films I need to watch a second time to enjoy/understand.
