I think USC would try to get a big name coach. I think their top choice could be Chris Peterson, and I wonder if he'd consider the job as he's probably done all he can at Boise and should come to the realization that he'll never be able to win a title at Boise. I could see them looking at Jon Gruden as well just because he's a big name and he never outright turns down coaching jobs, although I don't think he'd truly ever take a college job and just likes getting attention. Maybe they'd go after Charlie Strong, but if he wouldn't leave Louisville last year for an SEC job I can't see him going west, especially with Louisville joining the ACC next year. If those guys turned them down I could see them considering Petrino or Franklin, as well as Art Briles from Baylor.

I think it's Petersen, too.

No to Gruden. No to Strong. No to Petrino. No to Franklin. Art Briles is going to Texas once Mack is canned.

USC's defense played their guts out and allowed a measly field goal to Wazzu. The offense has athletes all over the place, but Kiffin, who insists on being his own OC, calls the most vanilla 2-5-yard pass plays. It's like he's calling plays in order "not to lose." He has almost zero confidence in any of his offensive skill players to make plays. You can go back to last year, even with Matt Barkley at QB, to see this trend. It's brutal to watch.

Kiffin will be fired mid-season, IMO. The sooner the better. All that needs to happen are the athletic boosters to write the check to buy him out. We'll see how long that takes.

Ok, guess I was wrong. I know you'd been his strongest supporter for a long time. If you've given up on Kiffin I suppose everyone has. I was reading some USC forums the other night and it was brutal. About 99% wanting him gone ASAP.

I've been incredibly silent on him ever since the fUCLA loss. Then came the GT loss. And now this. Over the past few games he's coaching not to lose.

Yes, I was supportive of him, because I desperately wanted him to succeed. After all, if he succeeds, so does my alma mater. However, Saturday night was the final straw. I wanted to throttle him. His players deserve a HC who actually believes that they can make plays to win the game.

I don't think I've ever seen a coach leave such a trail of hurt and angry people in his wake quite like Lane Kiffin. At his next job (IF there's a next job), I may open a Torch & Pitchfork stand. Y'know...just to be ready.

I don't see why he keeps getting these awesome jobs? Where has he actually won at? His next job should be as a OC, or as a head coach at a small school with less perssure on him to win right away.

Never really been big on USC. I kind of get that way when teams win a lot. However, I do feel bad for their players. Not the school, the AD, or their boosters, mind you, because they hired him.

I never understood why USC hired Lane Kiffin anyway. I get that for the few years he was an assistant coach/OC he did good things. But he has been a very poor head coach long before being hired at USC. I mean he was HC of an NFL (5-15) team and a CFB team (7-6) over the course of 2 seasons and change, and USC decides, "Hey! This is our guy!" Not to mention controversy follows this guy everywhere.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but I just don't get it.

No signature here, please move along.

I agree 100% with Peterson, I think he has stayed a little to long at Boise. We seen what he can do when he has players, at SC he will have the cream of the crop to pick from.

Mack Brown should be gone after the season. His buyout is miniscule ($2.75 million payable over five years) and it's clear he needs to go. He's been missing out on too many recruits over recent years and they need to get some fresh blood in there. With Texas' athletic budget, fan base, and the recruits in the area Texas is one of the top jobs in the country and they should be able to get almost whatever coach they want.

Yeah it looks like they might have to push him out like Bobby Bowden. He has made changes after changes and nothing has worked, so it gets to the point where you have to look at yourself. I think he should still be apart of the program in some kind of way.

Lot of choices for a job like Texas. They could look at in-state coaches like Kevin Sumlin, Art Briles, or Gary Patterson. They could go after Will Muschamp, although I doubt that would happen after he left after being designated their coach in waiting. Supposedly Texas is the one job Pat Fitzgerald would consider leaving Northwestern for. Alabama defensive coordinator Kirby Smart has been highly sought-after by many teams in recent years and has been waiting for the right job, and I would have to think he'd take the Texas job. I could see Mike Gundy, Chris Peterson, or Les Miles as possibilities.

The point spread on the UCF @ Penn St. game is smaller than I expected. Just 4.5 points. Hopefully UCF can pull it off.

Lane Kiffin is getting blasted by college football reporters because rather than talk to the media about his QB decision he's going to post a video on YouTube tonight.

If he post a video on youtube to announce his starting QB then he officially has lost his mind and should be fired before the season ends.
