I don’t think I’ve ever used my phone to do it. But I could should I want too.

Yeah, was just curious. Of course, shared content where messages are being exchanged so often would be mostly the domain of the mobile. It’s where this could lead that bothers me.

I know at least four people I’ve live streamed with were on their phones. I just didn’t need to do that as I’ve got other devices. I’ve watched boxing matches and other stuff live streamed too with comments on the side. It’s not for everything but some stuff as a social event is fine.

They will push it for films. My worst nightmare tech wise.

Basically it will allow several friends to watch the same synced video and post comments in real time. One person hosts and creates a playlist.

What a time to be alive!

Expect this to be implemented into every streaming service out there over the next year. Especially as competition ramps up. I have zero doubt Netflix will have already discussed this. Ditto Apple and Disney imo.

Keep telling yourselves backing digital delivery of movies was a good move guys.
My wife, late 30’s, would love that, I won’t touch that. She watches these over sharing videos on YouTube on her phone like I watch classics. The difference is, I, 32, watch in silence, typically in 1 sitting, no phone, on the 60”. Unless you’re dying or have money for me, leave me be. Her, watching a 20 minute video takes an hour. LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, texting, Facebook groups, Pokémon go, email, ingress, stops said video to watch a video about something else. Goes back, starts over, can’t remember what happened due to another social thing.... and by this time, I’ve heard the video 4-5 times and can practically recite it back. She loves commenting during FB videos and clicking emojis. SMH If she watches something I’m remotely interested in, the same thing happens and I lose interest as it’s a total mind f to keep seeing/hearing the same parts over and over. But it kills me that during this obnoxious viewing habit, she wants to communicate with all those around the world but not those beside her. It’s going to get worse, I just have to keep my son from picking up such a grotesque habit. My wife is quickly turning millennial,

I feel your pain. It’s everything I hate about modern tech. Watching films is my escape from this world. The last thing I want to do is share it.

Then don’t. It’s that simple. Just because something is trending on one platform doesn’t mean it is going to go mainstream on others.

Anyway, I’ll have to leave it there. Have to get up and head to the house to unload the trailer. Once that’s done I’ve got a load of other appointments.

I can't really understand why anyone would want to go to the trouble of deleting everything they've ever written. I have seen on other forums where a member, for whatever reason decided that he/she no longer wished to participate and even went as far as to post a question on a new thread asking how to delete their account. As you say, if you don't wish to take part any more, then don't log back in again. I would have thought that was easier.

I do not participate in any social media. I have no use for it. I have tried it out a few times, but when a friend kept posting trivial messages multiple times an hour every single day I had enough. One of the last messages I received was about how he was enjoying his bowl of Cocoa Puffs cereal. Ugh.

Some people on social media think that everything they do and that every thought they have must be shared with everyone they know as it happens. And they expect an immediate response to each brain fart they post. No one that I know is so fascinating that I need to know every mundane detail of their day in real time.

I would never tolerate anyone constantly interrupting a movie they were watching at my home so they could message people who were not there. When I go to a restaurant, my friends and I have agreed to put away our phones and instead interact with the people in front of us. Those not present can do without us for an hour or two.

I can see where the Mystery Science Theater routine might be fun with a really silly movie, but I would prefer the live commentary from friends who were present and watching the film with me as opposed to receiving messages from those located elsewhere.

If this commenting crap while watching streamed content remains optional without impacting my experience in any way, then it will not bother me. When I have company over they are visiting me, not their friends on social media.

Not all of us have that luxury. People can become friends online, for what it’s worth. Most of us were on mic, sometimes used chats tho. I honestly looked forward to our movie weekends as it was a few hours of laughing late at night at silly films. Not for everyone I guess, but my original point was people have been doing this for years/decades. It’s not a new concept.

That’s the point I brought up. I hope this stuff isn’t forced on us. I would be devastated as I like to enjoy my films without interruption with no onscreen graphics or comments to take me out of the film.

Also of course, that would tie in with my previous posts throughout the years about mobile dominance and interactive tv.

In the US Netflix added a auto preview to their listing and it is a pain for people like me. I have my Sony UBP-X800 set so that it outputs 24Hz so when Netflix starts their previews my screen goes black for several seconds as the system re-syncs. As you scroll ← or → the screen goes black if you hover any title for a short period. The problem is the previews can be 24, 25 or 30Hz so the system does a lot of re-syncs.

I have called Netflix and complained bitterly . I told them the fix was easy, just give us the ability to turn off auto preview. Most users probably does not experience the black screen because their device is set to output 60Hz by default. My workaround, mute the audio, go to the Netflix screen, let it start the preview, scroll very quickly to the desired show and hit enter.

I know what I want to watch and do not need the interference from folks that think they know what I want to watch. Always had a printout of the title(s) I wanted to rent since the days of store video rentals (LaserDisc, βeta tapes, VHS tapes, DVD). Some of my first lists were printed on a small Sinclair thermal printed using a Sinclair computer .

I understand. I have a friend In New Zealand and we have discussed watching a movie "together" while also having a Skype or Zoom call going so we could share our experience in this manner.

There are circumstances where I can see this being desirable. Again, so long as it remains an unobtrusive option, I have no problem with it.

Yeah, enforced alterations such as social viewings would be the final nail in the coffin for me. Even what you described is a example of what inconvenience changes cause.

I feel it’s no different than live streaming a video game and talking despite the game going on. As I said, should every movie be like this? Nope as you need to pay attention, but just goofing around to bad movies is a fun social experience. Despite not being in contact with a few people anymore I can say the memories of laughing at some really silly scenes is forever etched in my brain.

I have my doubts it would remain unobtrusive. I see all these type of things as a huge threat to my enjoyment of my home cinema.

I saw this coming to be honest but I always get the chicken little treatment.

I do not stream often. If it begins to bug me, I could easily stop altogether.

No one and nothing can spoil my disc viewings, so I remain mostly unconcerned.

I rarely watch cable anymore, but I did see a commercial for a
Pop up on screen showing who’s calling. I don’t remember the carrier, but my fist thought is, nope nope nope. Don’t you dare interrupt my TV with that. It’s not the same, but it’s another package that is being offered to be convenient. I don’t get it. Most phones now tell you the number of who is calling. Answer it or don’t. Why interrupt the TV screen too.

I never cared for caller ID being displayed on my TV, either. I think it can be turned off somewhere in your settings. I ditched cable four years ago for other reasons, so I am not affected by those type of distractions anymore.

Options should remain optional. They can provide as many as they can possibly dream up, but allow me to disable those I dislike. Only then are they actually options and not, instead, mandates.
