Even if the UHE is a new scan, doesn't mean it's a good scan from the original negative.
Either way, at this point I don't have any hope that Predator will be done right on this format anytime soon. Maybe when 4K rolls around.

There was specific detail to what he said that he wouldn't have if it weren't accurate. More to the point, I think he meant this information as a defense of the UHE, which is of course laughable. I think the "Twitter bromance" comment implies this was positive information meant to please me, but I take it as bad news. Now the UHE seems even worse, because I know they started somewhere good and ultimately wrecked it.

I'm no expert on 3D, but I've read many comments about how studios especially use DNR for 3D releases because otherwise they would be extra grainy, more than the 2D transfer of the movie using the same master. Which probably means that the 3D will just be UHE converted into 3D. I would hope that they would just turn the DNR switch to 9 this time and not 11.

I will also tell you that, for all practical purposes, the 3D release did not just use the same scan used for the UHE, it used the same master with minor changes to enhance the 3D version. The fact that it was converted to 3D is the reason Fox refers to it as an "all new 3D transfer". Fox tends to use transfer and master interchangeably If you watch this in 2D you will be watching the UHE.

Here is another prediction for you. When Predator is released in 4K, you will be looking at Predator UHE in 4K.

I was quite fortunate to see an original 35mm print of Predator on Saturday night in London and if i'm being totally honest, i have no idea how this is going to work in 3D as there is a LOT of background material (that forest is DENSE) to seperate.

i still got my 3D steelbook on order from Germany in the meantime

Saw that in the Movie and TV Deals thread, I placed another order for it and will have to cancel the first order I did a few months back, however that credit card expired so I should be good as it was never charged.
