Yeah-"All good things come with time". Problem is a lot of Frontier fanboys (myself included) don't wanna wait another 2 years or more, I mean Frontier aired in 2008 and Delta in 2016 for god's sake! I might have to pick up the jpbd set of Frontier and take things into my own hands.

I figure it's more likely that these things just take time, tbh.
Contracts can be a funny thing and so can rights holders intentions. You never know what stipulations might be in there. "You can only release this after this comes out" or "This can be released in this year for this quarter for no particular reason". Truth is we don't know why these things are taking so long and there could be many reasons why they haven't released. But I think it may, as always, be related to the original rights offenders over the years.

UPDATE #2

Day 1 Update

One day in and we're almost at 200% of goal! TYVM everyone.

We are busy reviewing the comments and passing on the best suggestions to BIGWEST for discussion. Thanks for being so passionate about the directions you'd like to see the project take.

As the stretch goal got smashed in just a few hours, we have already contacted Mikimoto-sensei and asked him to get started on the new art. However, we now have the problem of figuring out more stretch goals to add to the project.

While this is clearly in the category of "problems you want to have", we'd appreciate your feedback on this too. In particular, we're looking for ideas that will benefit backers at every pledge level. We have our own ideas of course, but getting a broader perspective is always good -- those of you who participated in the preview know how that feedback shaped the final campaign.

Finally, the UHD poll results are promising; so far about 400 of you have indicated you are interested in a UHD release, which is almost half-way to the 1000 we think we need to make it fiscally prudent. If UHD is something you'd consider, please fill out the poll!

Best,

Robert & Natsumi

Anyone pre-order Macross Zero Blu-ray yet? I pre-ordered yesterday from CDJapan. Used their latest 1000 yen coupon plus 500 points.

No actual images of what the coverart and box would look like? That's disappointing.

Also, they should give it a new English dub, not the old terrible one. If that was an option, I would probably back it. Right now, I might back the Blu-Ray + artbox, but I'm not sure yet. This is going to be released in stores, right? I might just wait for the retail copy unless they do a 4K version.

There’s no cover art currently available because they’ll have backers choose between a handful of options down the road.

No. The “retail version” is generally available through Amazon, Right Stuf (now Crunchyroll), and probably RACS. It will not be available to pick up at your local Walmart.

Update #5

Shikishi Add-Ons Coming Tonight

We're pleased to announce that Mikimoto-sensei has agreed to produce a series of limited-edition shikishi exclusively for backers of the Alus Edition.

So that everyone who is interested in a shikishi has an opportunity to obtain one, the artist has agreed to produce three tiers of shikishi, all of which will be personally inscribed to the recipient and signed!

All of these items will be available as Add-ons starting on 08:00 PM tonight, Dec 28th.

Tier One : Customized Personal Shikishi - $2000 (limit of 10)

These shikishi are created specifically for the recipient and are completely unique. They are hand-drawn and colored by Mikimoto-sensei, and the recipient can make suggestions as to the content which the artist will take into consideration when creating the artwork. The subject matter must be Macross II-related. In some cases there may be some back-and-forth discussions before the artist settles on an acceptable design.

Those of you who have seen what Mikimoto-sensei has done for previous Kickstarters already know that these shikishi are next-level, but here are some samples to give you some idea:

Sample Mikimoto Shikishi from our Megazone 23 project.

Sample Mikimoto Shikishi from our Megazone 23 project.

Tier Two : Semi-Customized Limited Edition Shikishi - $800 (limit of 30)

These shikishi will all use the same base drawing, which will be created exclusively for use in this tier. The core line art and base hair and skin color work will be printed on shikishi boards, and then the artist will individually color the clothing and background of each shikishi before inscribing and signing/numbering them.

Tier Three : Limited Edition Printed Shikishi - $300 (limited to one per project backer)

These shikishi will all use the same new fully detailed and colored drawing (so they will have the same level of detail as the other tiers) but are fully printed reproductions. As with all the other shikishi, they will be personally inscribed and signed/numbered by the artist. Note that this tier will not use the same base drawing as tier two!

Mikimoto-sensei wants to get input from interested backers about possible design suggestions for the Tier Two and Three drawings. So opine away in the comments. He has also told us that he intends to use the Tier Two and Three artwork to experiment with drawing on a computer in the shikishi style, which should result in something very interesting indeed!

I asked about that in the preview a couple months back. The problem with a new dub is that it's only possible if the funding blew the doors off the kickstarter. $212,422 out of $75,000 is great, but not exactly blown doors.

The other problem is that it would cause all kinds of delay that would push the project back.

So I would say very unlikely to happen at this point.

Zero was not listed among the big pile of Macross licenses divvied out to AnimEigo, Nozomi and Anime Limited. So if it is coming west, we have no idea who would bring it out.

The listing says it's region-free, so it should work anywhere.

That's what I mean when I say retail, duh. I don't ever consider Walmart and Target because they don't carry shit. Thanks for the info though.

They coudl have made it a tier like what Funimation did with Escaflowne.

Even if the discs are region locked, Japan and the States are the same region. So unless you're in the UK, you're probably good.

Thanks for the heads up on this btw. You and I will be the guinea pigs on this release I guess. I just bought it - didn't have a 1000 yen coupon. Didn't know I could stack them - I did try with the 500 and 300 yen. Pretty expensive set! Especially considering I've never seen anything Macross. But everyone raves about it.

I figure now that I'm nearing the end of my Gundam collection, having all I want out of UC of what's available, I'll now move on to other series I'm interested in.

Question: wouldn't the dub be something they already had the rights to? Usually dubs or the right to make one comes with the license or contract, because it's negotiated in the early stages. Shouldn't this have been there from the get-go?
