This film didn't stand the test of time for me and I wasn't impressed by the sharpening and skin tones of the characters either, underwhelming disc. If anyone wants to buy/trade for the steelbook pm me

Good on Madman for giving it a go, even if it is just a clone of the Sony disc.

Got a question about this film that i can't seem to find an answer to; the colours and logo of the fast-food 'drive thru' is quite obviously McDonalds. Yet the name given to it is 'Mega King'. If it's a satirical jab then it seems rather unsubtle. Anyone?

Thanks for your help...

UHD is probably the worst home video presentation of TFE. Completely yucky. Gaumont Blu-ray or Japanese laserdisc are the only ways to watch it properly.

Name me one single thing in THE FIFTH ELEMENT that’s subtle.

Stop. Please. You might influence someone who doesn't know better.

I hope so. I want nothing but the best for other TFE fans and movie fans in general. Isn’t that why wer’re all here?

Got into 4K this summer. Finally picked this up.
While a bit rough around the edges, massively better than blu-ray.
I wouldn't go back to blu.
Watching on LG OLED.

The Sony Blu is just as horrible. You should seek out the Gaumont Blu.

i agree, that one was a bit underwhelming.
I still felt overall it was better than a good blu-ray experience - detail wise certainly, with some exceptions.
of course, i've not seen the Gaumont blu.
this UHD did switch to what looked like 720p for a few minutes around 20 min mark. who knows what that was about.

Yeah the UHD isn't perfect (that damn sharpening!) but to say that it's horrible and that the contrast boosted Gaumont BD is better is crazy talk.

Sharpening is just one of the problems. The entire image is ghastly. You guys make fun of T2, but the amount of processing Sony did on this thing belongs in Guinness. Original audio mix was better as well.
