I love both of these titles, and sometimes I feel like they don't get enough love. I remember when Something Wild came out a lot of people on this board were pretty dismissive of it, but I think it is great.

Haven't seen TOB, but plan to at some point. And, I agree that if you don't want to see changes made in a film based on a book, then don't see the film - I'm with you there.

The main issue I had with Purple Noon
[Show spoiler]was that they changed the main plot point of The Talented Mr. Ripley - the whole point of that book was that Ripley got away with masquerading as Dickie Greenleaf, and went on to have adventures in several other books by Patricia Highsmith featuring the character. By changing this main plot point in PN & having Ripley captured at the end, the whole crux of the novel was thrown out the window. I'm guessing a lot of this was that back in the 1960's, characters in movies that did bad things didn't get away with them...

This is not new in movies, however. In the '70's novel First Blood by David Morrell, the Rambo character
[Show spoiler]died at the end of the novel. Obviously, in the films they didn't want to kill off the character so that they could have sequels...

For some reason, I've been going through a big 1980s revival lately. I've been enjoying some of the Scream Factory titles that have been on my list for a while, and revisiting some of the second-tier stuff that my childhood nostalgia yearns to see again. Something Wild is a blind buy, but I've always loved the soundtrack, and I've always heard great things.

It goes without saying that Scanners fits perfectly into my 1980s B-movie phase.

It's typically the 15th of the month unless the 15th falls on a weekend or holiday in which it is the Monday or Tuesday after said holiday.

Really hoping to see the L'Avventura upgrade, although coming so soon after L'eclisse may be wishful thinking. Think The Brood is a safe bet. And maybe Muholland Drive. We may also be due for a silent film or documentary. Vol. 2 of the World Cinema Project should be coming up soon too.

Personally, when talking Antonioni, I'd like to see Blow-Up added, which has become a rare DVD. It was hugely influential to other filmmakers and could make for a fantastic release.

No doubt, but I think the chances of Congress agreeing to immigration reform are better than Warner licensing out a title to Criterion (Badlands notwithstanding). Can always hope though.

Yea, just checking. Though I thought there was a recent incident, a few months ago it seems, where the 15th came and everyone expected the announcements (no holiday situation or anything), but Criterion pushed them back another day due to extra work they needed to do on cover art or something.

I also decided to take a chance and reserve a copy of Judex, simply based on the fact that I love Franju's Eyes Without a Face so much. The two films look dissimilar, but I'll probably get into the visual style of Judex.

I know it is a hard thing for WB to license like they did for Badlands but certain titles such as what WB once called their World Cinema titles Blow Up, Day for Night, Death in Venice. These are titles that would sell even better thru CC then thru a WB release IMO. WB could benefit from such releases.

I'm never good at predictions at all, The Tati set I would guess for Novemeber because they always have a box set during the 50% off sale. Unless... they put it out the last Tuesday of October which would work also. again I am always wrong.

I will predict we won't get as many horror titles as we always hope for. lol

Dazed and Confused and Repo Man finally arrived.

I think I will be heading into the store before the end of the sale to pick up Videodrone, Scanners, Naked Lunch and possibly Fear and Loathing.

I'm down for Blow Up. I've mentioned Ebert more than a handful of times on this thread. Call me a fanboy if you will. (I don't think it's true, but if you'd like to, be my guest) Anyway, it is frequently comforting to know that Ebert did include a film like Blow Up in his Great Movies column, but didn't include the two films from the alienation trilogy that CC recently released on blu. That isn't to say that he didn't like those films, but he wrote around 250 reviews for the GM column and didn't feel inclined to write about those. Also not included are Hiroshima, mon Amour (I won't get started, but this one deserves a capital 'P' and we all know what that stands for) and Pierrot le Fou (just saw the latter... was good - like 3/4 star good but does not hold a candle, IMO, to Breathless, Vivre sa Vie, or even Weekend
