Seeking some help with GOW please...

Due to the heaping praise from the folks on this thread, I bought the GOW collection yesterday. I am on the first boss (I think), the Hydra and am utterly stuck.

I have pinned the hydra's two side heads and am taking on the big, center head. I have figured out the attack sequencing and I can get the circle over his head, but after I get the weapons hooked in, nothing happens! I hold the circle button and after a couple seconds it lets go. I pressing the circle button like a freaking maniac and it pulls the head near the mast, but then lets it go. I have tired moving and pushing the circle, right stick and circle, everything!

I looked at a couple walk through helps and they say "mash" the circle button...so is "mash" meaning hold it or press it like a madman? My guess is the latter, but pressing that thing as fast as I possibly can does nothing to shatter the mast. I have hooked the hydra head at least 20 times but nothing has ever happened to the mast.

*sigh* Please help because I am about to kick my dog in frustration. Please help Rascal!

P.S. If you tell me to press the circle button faster, that doesn't help Rascal because I don't think I can press it any faster--I have even set it on the table and just poked that button fast repeatedly to add to my speed without luck.

The internet says you should press the button with your index finger. FASTER. What a strategy, eh? Poor Rascal.

//Wow, I'm glad I took this game back to the store and got Xmen legends before opening it 2 years ago.

IIRC you have to go towards the head not stay stationary.

Are you pressing with your thumb or finger? What I do is quickly place the controller on my lap and start mashing (pressing repeatedly) away at the circle button. You shouldn't have to go super, super fast. It should be doable at this point in the game.

Or are you playing on hard? I think you have to be quicker with the quick time events on higher level difficulties.

You guys didn't like X-Men legends? I played number 2, it had two buttons, the win button and the heal button. And no "quick-time" events. And the effing Xmen.

I wanted it for xmas (it was like $10) and my GF got me god of war instead.

Thanks for the help...

There are four levels of difficulty. I am playing the second (hero?). I tried putting the controller on the table and using my index finger...will try it again tonight.

Rascal is spared for the time being!

Anyway, for the Uberchests, it's useful to use a guide. With this guide I didn't miss a single item in the game:

For challenge of the Titans, I used this one:

That is awesome (especially the news about saving during Challenge of the Gods), thanks!

i got all the cyclops eyes in one playthrough, at the entrance to the temple, i just let one of the riders live and he continued to call new cyclops then id knock him off, beat down the cyclops, and rip its eye out, rinse repeat

but yeah, GOW2 was easier to plat than GOW, although i found both to be pretty easy overall

Bought the collection the other day and fired up the first one last night at about 11pm.........this is my first time playing this game and I got sucked in big time.........next thing I know it is about 4:15am! I have not done that in years. What a fun game. Looks really good IMO and better than I thought it would considering it is a PS2 game tech. I played it on the plasma upstairs, but I think I might just move it down to the HT and play it on the projector since I dont have a sound system upstairs (just the tv speakers). This one seems like it would be killer on the big screen with 7.1!

Ok, I searched this thread and didn't see anyone mention it. I just beat GoW 2 but for some reason the boss set 3 trophy didn't unlock, anyone else get this problem?

Just beat that big medusa thing in GOWII. I kept blocking that freezing ray but when it stops I was always turned into stone. I figuring maybe I did not press the O button fast enough or maybe I was suppose to let go of the L1 button. I don't know what happened but I kept using rage and the typhon arrows and won.

No, unfortunately I usually overwrite my saves, I'll just have to play and beat the game again and see if it works and get the rest of the trophies along the way.

Definitely loving the OG favorite GoW on the PS3. I like the graphics better than the GoWIII demo, in fact. lol. Hopefully they're doing more optimization or something.
