Scorpion put it out and decided that the new master they made wasn’t Blu-ray worthy, based, I guess, on the very grainy cinematography. Too bad.

Supposedly a Blu-ray is planned, but Walt Olsen apparently has been dealing with some serious health issues and Scorpion has taken a back burner. Longer explanation:
[Show spoiler]

Apparently DVDs outperformed Blu-rays for Scorpion for a surprisingly long time. (In November 2014 Walt Olsen posted a list of titles going out of print, including House of Sorority Row: "as just like TOMBOY, the DVD will remain in print, as the DVD sold much, much better. For a supposedly popular slasher, the Blu sold barely 1,200 units. It’s amazing how many people requested that I upgrade this title as a Blu, and you can now see, there were less than 1,200 folks who actually wanted it going through retail route. And me only getting, if lucky, 1/4 of the retail price, this title would have been better served as a limited edition of 1,200 units via direct sales, which is why I will make all future genre Blu titles limited editions.")

Obviously the limited-edition model worked better for him (and his brother Bill, who runs Code Red). Eight of the Scorpion titles that were going out of print at the end of 2014 have since been released on Blu-ray by Scorpion or by Code Red. In 2018, Scorpion even released a new Blu-ray of House on Sorority Row as a limited edition through Ronin Flix and then as a standard edition.

My guess is that the 92 in the Shade DVD release (in 2016) was from a time where they were much more cautious about Blu-ray releases. A Blu-ray release has been nebulously "coming soon" in the first post of the Scorpion thread for a while now, so it seems like Walt reconsidered, but lately his health has taken top priority.

Would love to see you guys release Why Me? (1990) from MGM. Christopher Lambert and Christopher Lloyd star in it and i don't think it's ever been released on disc.

There is something to their cautiousness around Blu-rays then--even though 2016 was very far removed from the format's infancy--but I also know on better than good authority that the photographic style of 92 IN THE SHADE was specifically cited as the reasoning behind Scorpion not putting a Blu-ray out at the time that they released the DVD.

In any event, maybe they do still have the rights and, if so, will hopefully finally get that Blu-ray of 92 IN THE SHADE out.

That's frustrating, and I hope so too!

Will it be coming this year? I love the chapter in the sample, and I collect Benjamin Marra's comics and LP covers. Love his esthetic, which fits this style of book perfectly. Coincidentally, I just reread his "Night Business" earlier this week.

Sorry if this was answered, but I looked back a few pages and didn’t see a specific answer: would a copy of Walking the Edge bought from an online retail store (rather than direct from VS’s site) have the corrected disc? If not necessarily, is there a way to identify the corrected disc?

I just put in the order for Smile, Walking the Edge and Rancho Deluxe so I am once again caught up on FCE. Still all blind-buys but I have yet to be let down by any of your releases so I should be all set.

Does anyone know if these releases were part of Vinegar Syndromes past bi-yearly sales?

They are, but not the most recent ones. It was Alphabet City, I Start Counting and Jeremy during the last sale.

If you're keeping up with the slipcovers and you don't own Smile yet, you should grab it now. Stock is getting quite low.

Thanks!!

I do not collect slipcover versions so I can wait. I am actually thankful, especially with my wide range of interest, that slipcovers mean nothing to me as otherwise I would have to shell out a lot more money and go crazy keeping up with what is going OOP.

SMILE slipcover quantities have dropped precipitously in the last couple of days.

Can't wait until FCE announces their next release! Is the mysterious TV-movie hint we got last month what's next in line?
