The game is afoot!

I've had just those two events. After hearing Big D's reply, I wonder if maybe it was an electrical spike of some sort. For me, it was two HUGE bass scenes which is why I thought it was overloaded.

I'm watching Taken and it sounds GREAT. My instinct tells me the sub is solid, I'm leaning towards random external cause.

On another note, just heard back from my bud in the states and the AA is on its way to me. Cost a decent amount to get shipped back to Montreal! $104 including insurance. Its now running me $60 over from my initial goal.

When he got the box he said it was a little beat up but nothing bad enough to damage the inside... a little worried here also!

More updates to come!!
The sound in my room had nothing to do with AA sub. I am not even sure if the sound was from the other subwoofer in my room. It happened 4 or 5 times in the last 4 or 5 weeks and on a couple of occasions, I wasn't playing anything. The first time it happened, I thought one of the neighbors had thrown a rock at the window. Unfortunately, the sound is too random and lasts for a second or two. I can't even guess where it is coming from. The only thing I know is that it comes from behind me close to where I have a surge protector and an external amplifier that drives a 15" DIY subwoofer.

Grev, I sure hope so!

I stopped by home depot's lumber area tonight looking for old MDF and some
2x4's that they have in the old cut-up sections and thought of something else for the riser... For the top part of the MDF (where the sub sits), I thought of putting a layer of Foam Carpet Cushion-Pad. I use these under my studio monitors in home studio. Helps with the vibrations... Anyone used or tried this ?

why not try this.. i would use both..put the raamat on the wood (platform) and the ensolite on top of the raamat.. and then your choice to cover with carpet.. http://www.raamaudio.com/cgi-bin/index.cgi?p=pr

Go to the bottom of Post #2 in the Repairing & Upgrading Subwoofers. There are plenty of links for dampening material.

Let us know! HDSub-10 is a great choice. Tweak its positioning for best results. Fill it with polyfill if you can, very easy to do and does tighten up that bass output a bit!

Well I played with the other sub I was selling after I shipped yours. Its an energy s10.3 sub. not quite broken in but damn did I have to turn the volume down. Comparing it too the HD-Sub10 I prefer the AA sub for music seemed to me like it blended in better. It took sometime to break that damn sub but for the price its a great sub. Crazy thing now is I moving out of this damn apartment. My girlfriend broke up with me and Im getting a new spot but after I got the new spot we got back together but decided space would be good. Plus I can now play my speakers louder. Still I wont be able to afford a new sub for awhile. Gotta get a bunch of new furniture. Who knows though hopefully when I get back to a sub the AA subs havent blown up where they get overpriced and maybe Ill go up to a 12". Enjoy the sub.

Well I think it really depends. Some got subs that came out really loud. I know me and someone else took sometime. Even with speaker placement and everyones tips it took sometime to really notice the improvement.

Did you buy RW-SUB 12 or HD-SUB12? I will add your name to the list of owners in Post #1.

I got the RW-sub 12 mainly because I wanted downfiring (I have kids enough said right ) And I was impressed wihtt he specs over the HD series. Also They said it was a more home theater sub, which is exactly what i wanted it for. Can't wait to relisten to some of my BD's wiht this baby, already droling over it and I don't even have it yet.

By the way Big Daddy, will I have to redo my calibration tets on my onkyo 805 reciever or will they be alright wihtout chaning anything?

Oh by the way it's black, will beautifully blend in wiht my other homehteater stuff which is black, my fav color.

Congratulations on your new sub. You need to do several things:
  • Experiment with the location of the sub to get the best bass output for the main listening position.
  • Try putting your subwoofer in the right front corner, about a foot away from the walls. If it gets too boomy, move it away a little more from the walls.
  • Use an RCA Y adapter (2 male, one female) and connect the subwoofer cable coming out of your receiver to both the left and right inputs on the subwoofer. This will increase its output by several dB's.
  • Turn the amplifier level on the back of the sub to 60% level. You can adjust it a little after you are completely finished. Do not increase it more than 75%.
  • Increase the crossover on the back of the sub to the maximum level. You set the crossovers inside the receiver.
  • You must run the calibration program again. You can adjust the settings slightly to meet your preferences.
  • If you put the subwoofer on a riser, you may get an improvement in its performance.

Inside the menu of the receiver, you have the option to set the crossovers for the subwoofer and the individual speakers. The option for the subwoofer is Low Pass Filter and the options for the speakers are the High Pass Filters. The automatic calibration program sets these for you. However, a lot of people are not happy with the results and decide to change them manually. Always set the crossover on the back of the sub to the maximum level and set the crossovers inside the receiver.

And what would you say I should adjust the cross over on the reciever if I set them to max on the sub itself.

The sub will most likly sit about 7-10ish ft away form the main listening postition.
