DVDBeaver have posted pre-order links for Kagemusha and Playtime, but they link to "DVD" titles by "Image Entertainment". This is the second time I have noticed this, as Beaver linked similar Amazon pages for Repulsion and For All Mankind. I believe they morph into the appropriate Criterion-marked listings in a few days, but for now, pre-order if you wish, at your own risk.

yeah I was really surprised by that one. I really enjoied it, but the ending killed me.

Found 400 BLOWS in Toronto as well as WAGES OF FEAR. Went with the former. Wish I could have gotten to both.

Just wondering if Silence of the Lambs and Rock.., get Criterion treatment.., as the standard dvd's were featured in the Criterion collection.

Nope. Don't think they have the rights to either of those, and certainly don't expect a joint release from those catalog titles any time soon.

These won't likely show up labelled Criterion. Rock already has all the Criterion content on it from what I've read. SOTL not sure about how the content overlaps with their DVD.

I had a copy of The Rock Criterion SD, bought the BD, and the BD had all the extras of the SD. (So while I think they still might have distribution rights to the film, a BD rerelease would be superfluous.) SOTL they no longer have rights to. That SDDVD is long OOP (there are more extras on the BD. From what I remember of the SD, it was pretty much just essays on FBI profiling. The BD has retrospectives, docs and TV spots).

The Criterion DVD is not OOP yet, and I remember hearing that the extras actually belonged to Touchstone/Disney, thus explaining why it all appeared on the blu-ray of theirs. Criterion will not have a blu issued for it I'm sure.

I have been trolling this thread for a while. I love Criterion releases but I just started collecting some of the films. I have most of the Blu releases and I have a few DVD's. I just wanted you guys to know that I gain a lot of information and learn about plenty of new films from this thread. Thanks.

Play Time is an absolute must. One of my favourite Tati films. Only thing that could make it better would be a box with M. Hulot's Holiday, Mon Oncle and Trafic

Well I finally got and watched Bottle Rocket. It looks and sounds great but the movie just is not something I liked. It likely has more to do with Owen Wilson than anything - I just don't like the guy. I'm not really into comedies either though.

At least I've seen all the Blu-ray Criterions that are out now

That's too bad. It's one of my favorites. But I understand Wes Anderson (and Owen Wilson) not being everyone's cup of tea. I wore the hell out of my non-Criterion DVD and was one of the many who demanded Criterion give it their treatment. I could not be more pleased with the finished product. Now for Darjeeling...

Out of curiosity, are there any Wes Anderson films you do enjoy?
