[QUOTE=Morsoth;6373103]Perfect! I'll probably post them all on a ART website that doesn't require login or anything.

that would be awesome, I'd love to have these on my shelf also

I'm really impressed by the James Bond series made by Nissen, but since they are commissioned work, and we can't get them, I started making my version with a similar concept (the brushed steel ribbons on top/bottom and the cool looking spine!).

Those are my first Blu-ray Custom Covers and I truly hope they are not regarded as "rip-off" since I put a lot of time, work and a touch of my own style into them. Let's say I used Nissen's version as an inspiration but I can removed them if members here think a violated a copyright...

Here is a preview:

Morsoth, my dear fellow.

I've been mulling this over, and I'm really not comfortable with what you've done here. These are too close for comfort, so to speak, even after your redesign of the bottom.

I realise they are done with the utmost respect, and that imitation is a sincere form of flattery, but I'd rather you hadn't copied my design so closely.

Still, I'm not holding it against you or asking you to stop, that would not be fair at this late a stage, nor do I have any right to. I'm just letting you know I'm not comfortable with it. Okay?

Default Deep Rising Custom Blu-ray Cover by Nissen

Anyway, moving on.
Here's one I've done for the forthcoming Mill Creek release of Deep Rising after a month of semi-retirement from cover making.

This has to be the least subtle cover I've ever done. The movie just seems to call for a border-line cheesy approach. I went all out for the front: Big explosion, high-contrast, sparks flying, slanted poster and riveted title treatment.

I even threw my usual spoiler-caution to the wind and included some of the biggest money-shots on the back. This is a bonafide tongue-in-cheek monster flick and I think this cover milks that aspect to the max. So much fun to do!

A Bold, busy and brash cover all the way, like the film itself.

Available by PM or at CustoManiacs.

Fair enough, and I was concerrned by that too.

I'll remove everything on my own choice as I don't want to be in dispute with you. I truly love your talent and I had printed your version if they were available! But since they are strictly limited, I wanted to make my own.

Please accept my sinceres apologies, Nissen. I hope you'll pass on it as I considere you as one of the most talented artists out there along with DrrnHarr.

I'll update my Bond covers with a new spine, front cover - Somothing more original and not just a rippof of someone's else better work!

Sorry again...

Morsoth, I appreciate your respectful gesture, but I really don't want you to halt production on these. No apology necessary. You openly stated your sources and attempted no subterfuge. I just wanted to let my feelings be known to discourage similar enterprises in the future. Sorry for taking so long to make a statement, but I really had to digest it a while to know how I felt.

What's done is done and I harbour no resentment towards you or your covers. Please continue your work and share as promised.

We're good. It's all good.

Thank you Nissen, I'm very impressed by your generosity on this one.

One thing is sure, next time I'll come with something I created all by myself instead of borrowing ideas! And I'm sure I'll get more satisfaction of my work that way!

Thanks again!

Nissen, I like your cover for Deep Rising, but I must ask how we can be sure that these films in the Double Feature set will actually be on 2 separate discs?

If there's an award for the random placement of BD logo and DVD region 1 and 2 logos then we have a winner.

The image without the two guys on the front would make a nice back cover though and if you played around and dialled back the effects with the back cover image it could make a moody front cover.

Oh, I think we can be almost certain they will NOT be on separate discs. :-)

Maybe I should add the "Puppet Masters" title as a "Special Feature" on the back? Joking.

yeah, i forgot to take those crappy bd / dvd logos out. i hate the look of them. was getting tired and didn't even notice them. it is a default in the template that i use. when i find the time, i want to sit down and actually put a good amount of time into one, but that probably won't happen until i get home at the end of November.

oh well, keep on rockin dudes

Love it, was wondering if someone would do a cover for this since its really a desired taste. Love the cover and love the idea to just let the creative juices flow

This movie is a guilty pleasure of mine.

i think its funny that certain people here try to act like the covers they make have some kind of exclusive copyright. most of the time they are using copyrighted images and poster art. what if the original poster creators came on here and threw a fit. i wonder what kind of a response they would get

It's funny that you seem to think that blatant copying of someone else's design (not the art, the design) is acceptable. Do you work for Samsung?

lol someone is awfully grumpy.

itss not fair!!! i stole it first!!!

so someone took a poster and put a nice border or shadow effect on it. that doesn't someone how make its an original work of art. especially if its not available to share, why shouldn't we be able to make our on version. if they didn't want it stolen they shouldn't post it,especially if its not going to be released.

not trying to piss anyone off here. just wanted to share my thoughts. get pissy if you want

By certain people I can only assume you mean me.

I do not and have never claimed ownership, legal or moral, to the artwork used on my covers. BUT, I do claim moral ownership of the overall design of my covers.

I think most people can make that distinction, unlike certain people.

like i said, im sure some people will get pissy. and make underhanded attempts to insult me. and no i was not referring directly to you. i like the work everyone does in this thread but i think its a bit childish the way some people act. if you put a "design" out there it will be copied.
again just sharing my thoughts

At least have the balls to admit that you do mean Nissen. The last few posts between Nissen and Morsoth are the first of their kind in a long long time. So it's a stretch to say it's just a coincidence that you're suddenly posting about people taking ownership of cover they design.

Cover designers do obviously use existing poster designs but the covers they then create are their own. A lot of covers on these forums i consider to be works of art and if someone feels that their specific work is being copied/ripped off then they have a right to express their concerns. What you may not have considered is that some cover designers don't just do it as a hobby - it can be almost a full-time job, commissions for covers earn the designer money. They are often discussed and co-designed between the commissioner and artist, myself and Nissen have worked together several times with great results. I personally wouldn't want to see almost-replica's of our covers appear. Isn't the point of custom covers to be original?

If you had a car that you pimped up to your own style and specifications, you would naturally be very proud of it. So wouldn't you feel a little pissed off to see someone driving the same car in the exact same pimped up style?
