I appreciate the sentiment. I'm just tired in general. I have been for awhile. Working 10-14 hour days, plus trying to do other stuff to break the pressure of it down...and just stupid stuff is getting to me.

Sorry to hear that. How much sleep do you get? I don't know if more sleep is the answer. Maybe you need a vacation or something. Do you like the beach? I'm not a big beach person myself but I suppose I can see the appeal of some tropical destination and just kicking back and getting some sun for a week. Maybe that's what Groot needs

Sometimes I forget just how geniuenly afraid and uncomfortable people get when it comes to gender, and gender representation. As a man, I've spent my life looking up to characters of both genders, male and female. Some of the characters I identify with most actually ARE women. When it comes to player choice in video games, I am split 50/50 on which gender I choose to play as. I'm a confident man in regards to my sexuality, and I often forget people have problems with female or male representation.

What am I talking about? Well, just browsing around, I've seen how absolutely livid people are that the new Star Wars Battlefront features a female lead. I've seen people upset that Phasma is a woman as well. I specifically read this in regards to Phasma:

"If she's just gonna act like a dude then why didn't u make her one? Leia worked because she wasn't trying to be like the guys."

The way I'm wired, I just can't even begin to process a statement like that. What does "act like a dude" even mean? I feel like I'm missing something, because all Phasma did was just be a standard troop commander. There was nothing inherently male about her. There's also nothing inherently FEmale about her either. What would Phasma have had to do to "act like a woman" in context of that role?

More to the point however, is why the hell does Phasmas (or anyone's) gender matter? If the defining aspect of you life, and how you view other people, revolves around their genitalia, I just don't understand you. I see it often. People can't connect with a character because of their gender or skin color. That's such a petty, strange barrier to connection. None of that matters. I just can't put myself in the mind set of "man, Finn is black so I can't connect with this character at all" or "Rey is a woman. I can't connect with her longing to be with a family at all.", or even the opposite of "Luke Skywalker is a dude. I can't connect with his desires to want more out of life, because he has a penis."

I just don't get it.

It's fine, man. Just my life right now. Thanks tho.

I like watching the ocean more than being in it, but I do enjoy the beach in general. I can't go on a vacation right now. I'm trying to buy a new house and I am working on another business and I can't leave. I sleep from like 4am to 11am. On average I work from Noon to 1-2am. I'm doing work right now.

The Empire has always been depicted as all make and human only.
There are very few instances of either being in the Empire.
Daala and Thrawn are rare exceptions.
I think the Phasma extended from that and the fact that the armour didn't look like it was made for a woman.

***

In games where I can choose my character, I almost always choose the woman...
I'd rather not spend the entire game at a dude's ass...lol

because some people, mostly males, don't like the fact that a woman can be a leading character in a story rife with male leads (luke, han, annakin/vader, yoda, obi wan, etc.) and think it should stay that way and have females only as backup.

i remember reading things like you posted about rey in the force awakens. and then, again, about jen in rogue one. my answer to them is, "you don't like it, don't watch the movie. nobody is forcing you to do anything."

but i guess some people are just so caught up in the whole male-dominated society that they can't fathom a female being a lead in a movie as big as something like star wars (or within that universe, per se).

me? i couldn't care one way or the other. as long as they do the job and do it well, i'm fine with it. but as you said, others aren't so comfortable with that. so all we can do is laugh at their inadequacies and move on.

.

That is why I like James Cameron and Ridley Scott movies. Those two always have strong female characters in their films.

Thinking about how I've got to re-evaluate my budget again, this living paycheck to paycheck routine really sucks. I can't remember the last time I had the privilege to buy something for myself...

I should have added a Collective Soul to my collection. I got about five or six of their songs downloaded but I should have gotten a full CD.

And no wonder that songs seem so long. I had it on repeat lol

Same man. It's a complete bummer. I have a plan in place to make things better, but the getting there is terrible. I can't stand just barely eeking by.

I waited in a line to buy something that turned out not to be the brand I was looking for. I didn't even think about it until I reached the front of the line. Oh well.

I wanted to buy an official NES Classic controller, not one of those cheap knockoffs. Best Buy had a big NES Classic console restocking today, with people waiting in line for hours, vouchers, radio stations talking about it and all that stuff. All I wanted was a controller, but nope, all they had was a third party brand, which everyone was buying like crazy anyway.

I wonder if they'll ever be restocked.
