Personally, I think Vader rejoined the light side just before he died and should have been represented that way. Thus someone who looked like Shaw would be preferable, unless there's a better explanation for Christensen being used.

So him looking older when he's a force ghost makes perfect sense and shouldn't have been changed imo.

See if Christensen had looked more warm and kind when he appeared like Shaw did originally then it would've been at least a bit tolerable imo but he looks menacing and pervy with that glare an' all.
I agree with both statements

The possibility of seeing Luke (Mark Hamill) communicating to ghost Anakin (Hayden Christiensen) wouldn't look quite right, or make much sense to me.

Seeing Alec Guinness next to Hayden Christensen didn't make much sense to me either But, with Alec's acting career meaning much more to George Lucas than that of Ewan McGregor's acting career (so far), I see why Alec remained in role, and not Ewan.

I've thought seeing Carl Reiner (Ocean's Trilogy) as Older Vader would fit quite well

There surely wouldn't be an Anakin Skywalker force ghost in Episode VII. Too contraversial. If they use Hayden Christensen or another young actor, Disney and Abrams will be attacked. If they choose to use an older actor, they will be attacked for attacking Lucas. A no-win scenario. Yoda seems like a nice safe option.

Heres the thing I have about showing a you Anakin force ghost. Even though Anakin is put into the suit he still ages right? Why didnt Obi-Wan appear as a younger version of himself? As well as Yoda?

Because they died when they were older and younger versions hadn't been seen on screen yet. The theory is that Anakin died body and spirit when he turned to the Dark Side, so his force ghost image was a visage of that time.

Other theories are that Hayden replaced Shaw because younger viewers new to the series wouldn't know who the older actor was because he hadn't been seen before part from been under heavy Vader make-up.

Arguments have been raised that Anakin should look older, as he only became one with the Force when he saved Luke's life on the Death Star. The image of murdering child-killer Anakin shouldn't be his embodiment of the Force because he was such a knob.

Although realistically you should be able to choose your own Force Ghost representation and older Anakin's image should technically still look a bit crispy and missing a few limbs but that would be pretty awful to see at the end of the movie (it was in Episode III) full of dancing bears.

I think the last paragraph has much merit in that perhaps Anakin could choose to represent himself as his younger, more respectable self (obviously how he would see himself before being manipulated by Palpatine), being a Jedi knight and fighting for good in the clone wars.

I don't think, given this, his force ghost should have any technical reason to represent his physical body's flaws in any way, akin to how religious people see their bodies in the afterlife, restored to health.

In some cases, like Obi-Wan and Yoda, their force ghosts might manifest in a way that others would expect to see them, since there was no choice to alter their appearance, as with Anakin. Thus, they might appear younger to someone who hasn't seen them for a long time, versus another who knew them until their death.

They can look however they like, otherwise even the original SebastianShawGhost would've had a bald, scarred head if they HAD to represent what they looked like when they died. So if Anakin can make himself look more respectable in the original, then I gots no problem with putting an alternate version in there (within reason, natch ), because that's how Anakin chooses to represent himself.

My problem is with the execution of it, because it deserved better than an honest-to-god outtake from Sith followed by a creepy stare, it looks like something a deranged fan would've knocked together on a PC in their bedroom. And yeah, having an older more regal-looking HaydenChristensenGhost would've been great, not the floppy-haired douche from the PT. Perhaps they can catch up with Hayden in 10 years time and get him to shoot that scene again?

They should look like they want, otherwise the afterlife will be full of OAPs and other people looking in distress (like Bettlejuice)! There shouldn't be any reason for us to get upset with Anakin looking like Hayden. If it makes him feel happy and all that!

I think the reason people get upset with Hayden's inclusion is the behind-the-scenes aspect of it, it been an outtake, trying to appease the prequel audience and Hayden trying to look charismatic and nonchalant when he couldn't manage it in Episode II and III.

It was awful, they wasted some nice looking sets with their awfulness. Han said "What?" like he was stupid instead of been old and hard of hearing, the only thing remotely funny was the clock on Artoo not been set and Leia not been able to record a message because the technology's too complicated.

Extremely awful. The cast of snl has just been so dreadful the past years.

I still think the best snl Star Wars bit was the alternate auditions.

Love this.

Also, I think it's just popular to hate on snl, because I think parts of that trailer were hilarious. Lando and his wife, Luke and his pills and lightsaber walker! lol. Also salacious crumb!
