Try switching out the cables and use the AV cables that came with the PS3 and see what happens.

Are you sure you don't have it plugged in incorrectly?

Well the display settings might be off. Try turning the whole thing off...then have it on to standby mode(red light) and then press and hold the power button(the one on the front) until it beeps 3 times then let go. That will reset any display settings.

No. Got the HDMI out from the PS3 and into the HDMI 1 slot of the TV.

When I click on tv menu to pick HDMI 1 it gives me nothing but a blank black screen, no sound from the TV at all.

But when I slide my tv menu on to HDMI 2, 3, 4 the TV screen would show me "no signal".

The ps3 is probably displaying through component. I dont remember but I thought ps3 would auto detect which output you were using. Trying connecting through a component cable and see what you get.

Try again, but with the composite cable hooked up. Pretty much the lowest resolution you can go, if still nothing, you might have a issue with the video output...

I have a 60 gig and I had to hook it up using the standard A/V cables that came with it and then manually switch it from the settings menu under display to HDMI as my chosen output. Then it switches to HDMI, I switch my tv from AV 1 to HDMI 1 and I have an image. It says press X if you want to keep these settings . You choose automatic or pick your tvs available resolutions . follow the next menu and you can switch audio output to HDMI as well if you desire.

Out of curiosity (and not 100% sure if this question belongs here, but...) I've been playing a lot of video files on my PS3 recently--usually AVI. For some reason, in the middle of a show or movie, the PS3 will dump me back to the XMB with an error, "Content type not supported" or "Format not supported" (or something similar), even though it was playing just fine for 10 minutes or an hour, etc.

Any idea what's behind this?

I haven't tried playing anything since 3.00 hit, so I might give it another try, but I was curious.

Not sure why i didn't test this sooner but i tried playing a bd movie on my 60 and it froze in under 5min. Would this be related to the laser or just those corrupted hdd files? I'm hoping it's the files.

this is what you have to do, turn of the ps3 and then turn it on again, but hold down the power button until u hear 3 beeps, and then it will take about 5 more secs to come up the screen, if that dosent work then i dunno then..
