I’ll take 3-D over 4K any day of the week

Once 4K 3D is available at a mass consumer level it will usher in a new age of 3D cinema and home viewing.

Not if you have to wear a headset.

Still don't have Avatar on 3D Blu-ray, but plan to get it soon.

But only for the fact that James Cameron (unlike Ridley Scott) is among the few filmmakers who understand that objects outside our stereoscopic field of vision, i.e. especially planets, can't show up in 3D because they're too far away - and the opening scenes of Avatar therefore are sort of a reference how that should look like in 3D realistically.
I need to re-watch it but you're in for a treat! I loved the command room view with the holographic displays.... and the holographic display in 3D!

Except that’s boring as hell. I’m not looking for realism in a 3-D sci-fi adventure flick. I didn’t want huge chunks of the Avatar films to be flat, but they were.

There are exceptions, most hated the auto software based conversions like in Predator, Jumper, iRobot... i am out on the homebrew conversions as well, would rather watch the 4k flat.

I’m not counting homebrew conversions (except for EyePop, they are excellent) and yeah, the few shitty studio autoconversions would be exceptions, but those are very very few.
