All over the Kitano releases when the pre-orders go up. These films I will pay full price for and double dip with the limited copy run too...

Don't really know who to report this to but there is a duplicate entry in the database for Takeshi Kitano. God knows if it even matters, but yeah if any one cares they're sure to frequent this thread.

probably the best idea would be to write someone like Pro-B ?
there is no option to report or change the entry.

Hope we see more Thirdwindow releases (and more often) in the future.. the current line up for the next 5 months is just amazing.

i went trough some Tsukamoto DVDs the last few days.
I liked Vital and Snake of June alot ! hands down awesome movies 5/5..
Gemini was "good". well done movie, interessting charachters and its some pretty cool stuff during the movie.
Hiruku was "fun".. and had some really nice shots and a beautiful theme song.
But not much of a movie i will revisit often.

Havent seen "Haze" yet. Gemini , Hiruku and Haze would probably make a nice feature box.

When does a thread get a sticky? This thread certainly deserves one now.

Count me in for the Kitanos.

Is there any hope to see VIOLENT COP eventually? I get the feeling it might need a lot of work as the dvd releases are all horrible; but it remains my favourite of his films, alongside HANA-BI.

maybe we could get a kickstarter supporter group together and talk with adam about what movies would be possible

and TWF really needs a sticky, would push sales probably as well.

watched Greatful Dead. i did really enjoy the movie alot !
was kinda hoping for kkobbi kim to have a bigger role and more onscreen time, but everything else was pretty crazy and awesome

Defintly a movie fans of "love exposure" and "cold fish" will like.

Agreed. The movies we really want probably would cost a fortune to license or may only be offered with other films in the deal, and Cineasia are the example for Adam not to throw money at titles which won't make profit. Breaking even not the best option, he has to make a living at the end of the day. At least if a kickstarter is discussed, we would know the figures involved at realistically getting a decent HD release out in the West, then it would be for us to put our money in to support it.

Default Third Window Films Discussion Thread

I don't think Kickstarter can be used to fund licenses. I seem to recall someone tried it before and the Japanese rightsholder wasn't happy about it and shut them down (though I can't for the life of me find a source for that at the moment). Maybe other rightsholders will be happier, but it's still murky territory.

maybe a kickstarter could be used for a "surprise" bluray? didnt arrow do something similar with their US label?

im just wondering if someone did already get a few of the DVD releases ive mentioned recently and did enjoy them and some bluray releases are avaible really cheap from thirdparty sellers.. 5,50 GBP for some.

Lee Su-jin's Han Gong-ju has been named the Best Korean Film of 2014 by the Korean Film Reporters Association. The group also voted the film's star, Chun Woo-hee, as last year's Best Actress, while veteran Choi Min-sik was deemed Best Actor for his performance in the record-breaking period smash Roaring Currents.

Time to get these preorders in. Amazon price is at 12.50 GBP , they might very well increase it before the release to 14-18 GBP

Arrow were gradually revealing the titles that they had lined up for their US label. That way it keeps it in the news rather than everything being announced at once and it being forgotten about.

Vinegar Syndrome are currently using a surprise Blu-Ray as a Kickstarter reward. Not a fan of that at all really - to me, it just says that you don't have enough confidence that people would pledge if they knew what the film was.

well if its Thirdwindow and Adam tells us the "suprise" bluray would be something from Kitano , Korea or some oldschool HK stuff i would support it without knowing what movie it will be.

Since the Tetsuo Releases Thirdwindow did take really a big risk with nearly every title they did release. I did enjoy them all. I loved movies like vulgaria , For loves sake and Woodsman and the rain. but as far as i know all of these movies arent good sellers at all.

But seeing labels like Tartan , CineAsia "Fail" with even more known movies / directors just shows how hard it is to release Asian Cinema.

But I still don't see a reason for keeping it a surprise?

Tartan failed because they overreached and oversaturated the market. I'm guessing.
