Hopefully we will have some more clarity on what Turbine plans to do when they release their next 3 pack information.
I don't really blame them if they can only reprint the 3D master from Paramount, but it will indeed be a bummer and I would just end up ordering Scream 6 and TMNT in that case.

I'm pretty sure I heard before that they will put some improvement work into their Friday 13th Part 3 release to fix some former issues.

Yep, they’ve already said they’re working on fixing it.

If you’re not a “3DFA follower”, you should be, as they do phenomenal work, and if it weren’t for their brilliant sleuthing and tireless efforts and labours of love we’d have a very small fraction of the restored vintage 3-D content we have now; they are tops in the field. But I do have faith that Turbine will clean this up nicely, they seem to really care about getting all their releases right, you can tell that they’re passionate about what they do. I’ll definitely be picking this up. And if the 3-DFA ever get a crack at it, I’ll triple dip.

I wonder if they're going to be sorting out that botched zoom-in on Pamela Voorhees' face from the Part2 footage in the pre-title sequence. That was never meant to be like that, and happend because someone screwed up an attempt to reframe the shot.
It would be a nice bonus if that's fixed as well. Shame there's no way to get a fixed version of Pt2 that doesn't have this glitch.

That's a maybe, only if they start pushing out more of the 80's unreleased ones. I am not into the golden age and early silver age 3D.

Can’t relate to that blanket viewpoint, there’s so much strong vintage native 3-D goodness out there

Coming from Turbine on February 27th:

In the third installment of the legendary horror series, Jason dons the iconic field hockey mask for the first time. FRIDAY THE 13TH: PART 3 was previously released on Blu-ray 3D, but the film hasn’t looked this good in 3D since its theatrical release in 1982. Extensive corrections and improvements were made by Turbine to the existing 3D masters in an elaborate process. Further information on the repair process can be found below. Audio is presented in DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 & 2.0 in German and English.

Blu-ray 3D
Audio: German & English – DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 & 2.0 Mono
Subtitles: German, German SDH, English, English SDH
Video: 2.35:1 (1080p24 Full HD 3D)
Runtime: 95 min

The disc is region code free and can be played worldwide.
All editions have a reversible sleeve with alternative artwork and/or the original title on the front and spine.

Information on the 3D repair process

FRIDAY THE 13th: PART 3 from 1982 is impressive in 3D, not least because of its insane pop-out effects, in which objects appear to protrude from the screen. Previous releases of the film had to struggle with significant distortions. Such errors in the 3D presentation do not necessarily lead to a complete loss of the 3D effect, because the brain has a certain tolerance. But watching flawed 3D footage is exhausting and causes headaches in the long run.

For the Blu-ray 3D release, Turbine therefore had extensive corrections and improvements made to the existing 3D master. The image was adjusted in the parameters Horizontal Position, Vertical Position, Zoom, Rotation, Keystone X, Keystone Y and Trim. These optimizations were carried out jointly for both eyes as well as separately for the left and right, making a total of 21 parameters per image setting. The image parameters were adjusted scene by scene when the camera was static. If the camera moved through a scene, changing its angle or using the zoom, these 21 parameters had to be adjusted for each position. The parameters were first determined automatically using a 3D correction system and then manually fine-tuned.

The movie has certainly not looked better in 3D since its theatrical release in 1982.

I got the corrected disc for Part 3, and I think it looked mostly great. I have a Sony Passive 3D 4k non HDR set. I have purchased most of 3DFAs discs, and I guess I'll be following closely to see if it's a big improvement or not.

It's only going to have the 3D version but believe me, nothing compares to watching the film in 3D. I have the Shout set and watching the 2D version is completely pointless as far as I am concerned. Never have, never will.

The 3-DFA had nothing to do with Shout's version or Turbine's but there's no way Turbine's disc will be anything other than a big improvement as fixing the alignment issues will really impact on the overall experience.

Yes, I know. Sorry I should have clarified and worded it like this. "I saw no major problems with the disc when I watched it, even though it's not 3dFA. I also support high quality 3dfa releases and consider them the pinnacle of releases."

When reading back some time ago here I thought the consensus was it's pretty decent after the corrected disc fixed problems. But now it seems there's a massive room for improvement. I dont know if its limited to 3D sets, passive vs active, viewing environment, users, etc. It seems though that it is arguable how good or bad the disc was, as some note it looked pretty good. I do note that Robert had commented a while back in this thread that there are many issues with it, and his is the gold standard assesment in my book. Just note that I am an unsophisticated audience.

Their other 3D discs do play in 2D on 2D players so there's no reason this one will be any different.

Totally. This is one of those movies where you watch it in 2D and say to yourself: "Yo. This scene is only there for the 3D effect".
How else could a sane person explain the yo-yo or the juggling scene, shot from those weird angles?

Are the titles window-boxed on the 3D version as they are on the 2D version?
