It would have sealed so much.
That bit in the novel sends chills down my spine.

You just know s**t had gotten serious after the demon says that to him.

There's actually a lot of great dialogue that didn't make its way into the movie.

It was also surprising to see that the exorcism took much, much longer in the book then it did in the movie.

If anything it happened too quickly in the movie.

That would be pretty cool to see.

But with that being said though, the captian Howdy make-up pales in comparison to the make-up in the 1st movie (courtesy of Dick Smith R.I.P.)

I'd love to see the original Eileen Dietz footage even though I'd probably s**t myself.

Yeah, it's a shame that line wasn't in the film. There's a lot of stuff in the novel that should have been included in the film really. The Exorcist is so good it deserved to be a 3 to 4 hour movie IMO.

Nah I think it's fine the way it is length wise (the Theatrical Cut that is )

I think that making it 3 or 4 hours long would've been overkill imo.

Thats cool ya know, that's your opinion and it's fine. I enjoy both cuts of the film myself. After reading the novel a few times though, I would have liked to see more of that stuff in the film. Especially more of the dialogue between Karras and the demon.

Got an update:

Got an estimated delivery date for Exorcist: Complete Anthology [import] from Amazon.ca.

Delivery estimate: October 28, 2014 - November 6, 2014

Hopefully it ships quicker then that, as that is ridiculous.

That reinforces my decision to switch to the domestic release.. Enjoyed having the crap scared out of me last night watching the directors cut in my man cave by myself.. Man that soundtrack is an aural assault...

If you only seen first one then is it OK to skip part 2 and go straight for three?

For me the exorcist is primarily Father Merrin's story. It is a godly man whose soul is "prized" by the demon. It has followed him his whole life waiting for a chance to get at him... and it will go so far as raping a child to do so. For me that is CREEPY as HELL!! and a real aspect of Christian theology. The other story aspects with the other characters explore this concept as well, with the issue Karras's loss of faith and regaining of faith and the broken and troubled home of the mother and daughter, but MERRIN is the main target and key element of the story.

To me, feels like it's more Karras' ball game: Merrin's not in the story much; he provides some history, some context...informs our sense of character in the demon--an old foe--but in terms of impact, it's Karras' film. Friedkin actually denies our seeing
[Show spoiler]Merrin's death; he's more interested in Karras' reaction to it and what comes next. While the demon may holler "Merrin!" upon the old priest's arrival, seems like it more quietly tipped its hand early on in suggesting it welcomed the idea of an exorcism because "...it would bring us together," meaning it and Karras, which is essentially what happens (however briefly). Merrin's death was something for the demon to snicker over; Karras was all the marbles.

The box set and Exorcist III Imports are now showing "In Stock" but Exorcist II is still showing 3-5 weeks. I'm going to wait so I can get the pre-order pricing; I'll watch my DVDs in the meantime.

I find it odd that the reviewer for both DOMINION and THE BEGINNING spent so much text on Storaro's Univisium format (which I didn't know of and found quite illustrative) and how the high compression to fit the movies into a BD-25 could be part of the reason for the image softness, but then failed to notice the alarmingly distracting halos on DOMINION (they are everywhere, but specially jarring here), fortunately absent for the most part on THE BEGINNING.

Thanks for pointing that out and yes, said reviewer should have noticed this.

It has absolutely no link to the second film, it's an entirely seperate and stand-alone sequel that makes no reference whatsoever to Boorman's entry. Shame that Legion had to be called Exorcist 3. It's quite a misleading title, I can see why you would ask the question.

Looks like Amazon.ca has my imports of II, III, Beginning and the Anthology set on track for Tuesday. Now I just need to get a hold of some custom individual art for Dominion and I'm all set!

Picked this up today. The PQ is a lot better than I was expecting based on just scanning through. I can't wait to rewatch 3 and the prequels.

Actually the only link between II and III is absence. No kidding. The house is not shown. The steps, but not the house.
I think that's cool.

Also, the ruins of the house scene in the end of II are very similar to the ruins seen in the first film when Merrin goes to look at the statue. Boorman did that purposely. We discussed that in one of our talks.
So, years before THE PREQUEL & DOMINION the concept that this struggle had happened previous was first broached in II.
