It's OK to compare filmmakers and their films, what I object to is the limited vision that says "A" is excellence and "B" is crap! It goes without saying that what you LOVE is going to be "A", but that doesn't mean everything else is "B" either.

I can watch "Heavens Gate", "Eraserhead", "Brain Of Blood", and "Frankenstein's Castle Of Freaks" and not enjoy any of them, but they still in their own way have both artistic and emotional value....SURELY, not the way the director or the studio may have intended, and in most of these cases I'd even say they likely induced the opposite intended effect. But each one regardless if unintended comedy or editorial train wreck, contains an artistic vision and is designed to generate a response from the viewer...negative or positive. And THAT is the artistic accomplishment that regardless if we're comfortable with or not is what we should be looking at.

There are hundreds of films I DON'T like, but even the ones I dislike I can still appreciate the artistic intent each one intended to display. Whether that was presented by Ed Wood, Herschel Gordon Lewis, Michael Bay, David Lynch, Martin Scorsese or Steven Spielberg doesn't matter, nor does it matter if they generated $1 or $1M. I can view any film and see it as an art film, it doesn't have to "reach" me to be effective.

No, that's fine my point can be easily misrepresented. I have respect for director's work and how much time and people spent there, but what matters for me is the execution. It does not matter if it's a blockbuster, or an art house film or a box office bomb.

I'd rather argue about why A is great instead of saying B is trash.

Gacivory is a user who has posted in this thread multiple times. He’s a Marvel/Lynch advocate and will under no circumstances ever claim that Nolan is superior in anything to anyone or that any of his films have qualities or vote for them.. He usually bashes him, without saying any reasoning for that (as if that will change Nolan's archiviements). I won't even bother with Stvn because it's known that he hates him.

I mean, in many discussions some people have absolutely no rebuttal whatsoever, and that the only reason they still holding their point of view, is because of their personal preference (which can also be labeled as bias) Even if some are too far gone to recognise the hate, anybody reading will surely be able to.

I was defending Nolan because out of nowhere, he started bashing him. I mean, after someone slammed down his career, Nolan is clearly going to cry in a corner with his net worth, and that amount of critical and box office success right? Obviously not.

Back to topic: the MonsterVerse sucks. I really wanna like the franchise but man oh man does these movies barely pass for me. Everyone talks about how the kaiju scenes are the only things that matter but those just don't work for me.

I've never liked Godzilla. The original (Japanese version) is a boring slog of a monster movie knee deep in dull convention except for the attack on Tokyo which is amazing. It's also less than five minutes of the total movie.

The only one I've liked is the 2014 American Godzilla, and that was just pretty good.

I rented both Godzilla 2014 and King of the Monsters and didn't finish either one. They're entirely sufficient, I guess? They just didn't seem to hold my interest for some reason. Skull Island was entertaining (although much of the acting seemed extremely phoned in) at least and has an excellent Atmos mix.

Maybe they're just not for me.

King of the Monsters is one of the most boring things I've ever sat through. Skull Island was dull, though John C. Reilly was pretty much the only actor who knew what kind of movie he was in.

I think it appeals to people who really just want genre thrills and nothing else. They kind of zone out in between the action beats, and then they get all excited for the big special effects showcases.
