No good point -- do whatever you think best. Personally, I prefer Redux, not only because I've read its what Coppola intended, but because the additional scenes do give a benefit to me personally, while others may not like them. Not saying what they are till u check em out bro

EDIT: Oh and I forgot my other reason for liking Redux: ITS LONGER If there was a "Super REdux" version that was 6 hours long that would be my favorite too! I can't get enough of this film! <-- my snobby answer to the film buffery of this world

Glad you've watched it 3 times already!! Just got mine delivered (netflix rental). About to pop it in!! The neighbors (house, 50 yards away from mine) will be hearing this whether they like it or not

Can't wait to see this again! I've only seen it once and I was around 16.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind

Director: Steven Spielberg
Writer: Steven Spielberg
Mains: Richard Dreyfuss, François Truffaut, Teri Garr

30 years later and this is still remarkable film!

This is my first viewing and i can simply say that this movie was amazing. Steven Spielberg is so creativity is amazing. This little gem shows off allot of cool special effects that still blow my mind here in 2010. Truly a movie before its time and definitely worth the purchase. I truly enjoyed how the movie became a musical in the last 20 mins. Im just a bit confused on the intertwining of the different people. Why did they all see that site? Besides that the movie was great and truly a classic in my book. Everyone has some type of mystery feeling about aliens and this movie takes the mystery to the next level adding human emotion. With that said the character development was great i really cant explain it without spoiling it but its amazing. Like i mentioned i loved this flick and its really showed off being that 30 years down the road it still has a effect of movie making and the viewer.

Must Own

4.5/5

i've heard, "Redux is longer, but the scenes added / extended don't really add much" but i'll go in with an open mind. and i with you, the longer this film is, probably the better.

gah, lucky about the house being so far away! push it to the limits! when i watched it last night the girlfriend was asleep and we live in an apartment so i couldn't be loud (even with just my tiny sound bar ). but this morning when i woke up i instantly turned the film on and watched it again - MUCH LOUDER - i figured if anyone was home (not many during a wednesday afternoon i'd imagine) they wouldn't care because it was the middle of the day. it was majestic

so many lovely, haunting moments in the film, it's staggering and no words do the film any sort of justice. it's almost creepy how much i fell in love instantly with the film

and it's quickly rising up my favorites list it's even getting close to
[Show spoiler]maybe pushing Fight Club out of the way
but i'm not gonna get super crazy now, i haven't seen FC in awhile so i'd have to watch again and then decide , but Apocalypse Now is really pushing to be "1. B" right now. but i don't want to jump the gun. i'm gonna have to give it a week or so and let it all sink in so i don't rush to judgment.
[Show spoiler]and because i'm really afraid to put it so far up on the list when there are other great films there that maybe i don't remember clearly because i haven't watched in a long time.

Believe me, I loathed musicals. If I was watching TV and a show had one, I'd turn it off. Then I bought this yesterday and it truly blew me away. I loved every second of it, including the extras.

if you hate(d) musicals so strongly, what made you buy it?

You can't laugh since you're a member here... I bought it primarily as an experiment based on the reviews, but also because it was an impromptu set with Romeo & Juliet (good price on both), and the slipcover is quite gorgeous as well.

I'm open to try new types of movies with the BD format that I generally wouldn't.

gotcha. no laughing necessary, i've made my fair share of blind buys and "i didn't like that... but it's cheap" purchases so i can't mock you for what you did. i was simply curious
and i figured it was the slipcover (i frequent the slipcover thread and see you're a regular there)

Gotta say though I'm concerned with the reviewing system here. I put a lot of effort into my reviews and publish them exclusively for bluray.com, often spending two hours after each movie just to write it up. It seems though the rating system is entirely too open to abuse. It's too easy for someone to "attack" you and downrank everything you do, and on the same note I see people with one sentence reviews that are upranked over and over.

that is a shame. sadly though i think most people on here just want a quick answer to a question. so reading a review that is "awesome movie, looks and sounds incredible!" is faster and easier than reading an in depth review. sucks though when you put time and energy into it to help others.

OK OK, I can only do certain musicals.
...and here I thought I had you sold on Dancer in the Dark; nothing like a depressing/gut-wrenching musical to win over the Squid .

Much better than I expected it to be, Danes and diCaprio looked so young in it, too.

I dont really consider that a musical though.

I guess my definition of a musical is a bit shakey. The type where the actual dialog is sung are the ones that dont work for me. Oh, and where the whole town breaks out into song and dance. The "traditional" musicals like Grease or The Sound of Music or Mary Poppins just make me cringe. Way too happy for me.

But I like The Wizard of Oz, which is pretty darn traditional.

I agree with you and I would also not attempt to write a negative review of a movie here.
