The only setting I have enabled is video conversion so that the AVR can overlay the on-screen settings on top of the playback video. IP/Scaler would further process the image, which I don't feel is necessary, as I don't want the signal from the source to be altered.

Hey everybody... I've got a Denon AVR-S900W and I had kind of a silly/stupid question...
I've got 7.1 speakers setup. The receiver refers to them as Center, Subwoofer, and Front L/R, Surround L/R, and Surround Back L/R. I was wondering, is it possible to force the receiver to treat the Surround Back L/R speakers as if they were the Surround L/R speakers when playing a 5.1 source? Basically, if you think of the speakers setup in the room as front, middle, and rear relative to where I'm sitting, then in 7.1 playback it plays from all 6 of those speakers (plus the center channel & the subwoofer). But then in 5.1 playback, it only plays from the front & middle speakers, and nothing from the rear speakers. I think I'd rather it play from the front & rear speakers and not from the middle ones, but I don't know how to make it do this. Is the only way to use one of the surround sound settings that makes it use the extra speakers even though the original source material doesn't use those channels? I'd prefer not to resort to that if possible, but if that's the best way and it'll improve my experience I'd be willing to try it... |

Yep, but I was hoping to make the receiver treat the rears as if they were plugged into the side speakers recepticles, because my living room isn't really set up correctly due to the placement of my sofa, which is against the back wall. So the sides are actually a couple feet in front of me and the rears are on the same wall as my sofa is so it's almost like they are placed more like the side speakers should be.

I just picked up a x6200 for an exchange on a onkyo rz800 that was cutting sound out and I like the x6200 a lot better plus it allowed me to run 4 atmos speakers instead of just the 2 with the rz800. I have a question regarding eco mode since I noticed it runs a lot cooler with it on but does it hurt the sound quality being on?

I just recently bought a Denon AVR X3200W IN-Command to replace a 5 year old Yamaha RX-V571 that gave me great service. I wanted to start upgrading to the newer formats such as the Dolby Atmos and DTS-X and 4k. I got this receiver at Crutchfield on sale from $1000 to $507. Setup was easy and straight forward. Man does this receiver blow my old Yamaha out of the water. I can definitely hear the difference in my movies and gaming. I can also swear that the video quality is also noticeably better. For a Bluray I'm using a Sony BDP S5100, Gaming I got a PS4 and Xbox One S. Speakers I got some old floor standing Definitive BP 2006, CLR 1000 center, BP 1.2x surrounds, UIW 63 in ceiling for my rears and a Definitive ProSub 800 (replaced a Cerwin Vega Sub).

Still waiting to receive my 2 month old receiver from getting an overhaul. It was in protection mode due to overheating, which was odd as it's completely out in the open. The technician said it's a very common issue with these. They repaired that issue and during the testing they discovered an issue with the center channel so they had to order more parts. It's taking a while but it sounds like they found an issue which could have popped up in the future.

Denon receiver's run hot, so that's normal; just make sure there's ample space for ventilation above the unit. If you're worried, you can buy fans to help with the airflow (AC Infinity have a good selection).
As for ECO mode, most people keep it either ON or AUTO, with no audible difference in the output volume. The reduction in power consumption is pretty significant. |
