So y'all. Who's excited about the Throne of Blood 4K, which my inbox tells me has just been dispatched by HMV?! It's a blind buy for me, and I'm bloody well looking forward to it!

Got Throne of Blood in the mail today. Imagine my shock at getting something from Rarewaves on time!

Now we just need The Hidden Fortress so I can retire the old BFI Samurai collection.

Mines been dispatched, as well.

Only seen this via my old Criterion DVD, So looking forward to watching in it’s 4k glory.

Please keep the 4k Kurosawa’s coming. Hopefully ‘Hidden Fortress’ not too far away.

Updated extras for their bluray of twentyfourseven.

Newly recorded audio commentary by Andrew GravesThe Guardian Interview: Shane Meadows and Bob Hoskins*(1997/2025, 79 mins)Ritchie, The World’s Light-Weight Boxing Champion*(1914, 1 min): newsreel capturing Willie Ritchie’s victory over the incumbent light-weight champion Freddie WelshTwelve Hours Punching*(1924, 2 mins): amateur fighters trade blows at a variety of weights during a boxing tournament at London’s Alexandra PalaceTrailers (1997, 4 mins)**FIRST PRESSING ONLY** Illustrated booklet featuring new essays by Andrew Graves, Caj Sohal and Tim Coleman

I'll be buying it regardless but I can't help being kind of disappointed tbh, would've loved a new Meadows commentary or at least something a bit more substantial.

I would have thought the fact that Brother is rated as 18 would be enough of a content warning, and whilst they feel the need to add the warning before the film, there’s no mention of any racist/homophobic language on the certificate info on the back of the case, just “strong bloody violence”.

When all’s said and done, I’m sure Kitano would laugh his ass off about the whole thing.

Although annoying, I rather have this than the film cut.
The first copy of it I owned was heavily cut, it was a French DVD release if I remember correctly.

I'm sorry, but where is the threat that the film could be cut without the 'disclaimer' (which I doubt was intended to be an actual disclaimer in any legal sense of the word)?

Disclaimers are insincere. A signal of detachment not virtue. We've seen so many sickening examples of detachment dressed up as virtue by now that no one buys it anymore.

It would be great, although what comes out in the BFI classics line doesn't often correlate with which films get released by BFI; I think they're fairly independent operations.

They should just put trigger warnings on everything and call it a day.
