First off, I wouldn't call their fight vicious. It was hardly vicious. Rope swinging, climbing, balancing on small droids... swinging so wildly that they hit everything but each other... not vicious. Yes, it gets vicious at the end, but for 3/4s of the time, it is filler.

Anakin should have been able to wipe the floor with Obi-wan - especially since Obi-wan was so reluctant to hurt Skywalker.

Watch Luke in ROTJ. That was vicious.

Secondly, expression of their brotherhood? Really? No, it was an expression of Georgie Boy thinking how awesome it would be to have a laser show during the climax of the movie. I understand that Lucas used the "they know each other so well" for the reasoning behind the dance off, but really, it's stupid. Think about it, if you see your opponent doing this marching band flag toss crap with his light saber, I stop my own star search practice and I cut his arm off. It's that simple.

On the Making Of book it was explained that they're both using the same technique, their fighting style mirrors each other. One is a teacher to the other.

That makes no sense in a world where you have the force. You dont try and anticipate their next move. You just let the force guide your blade. It was just a reason for whoever did the choreography to have a "cool" looking scene

What part of Anakin's drop kick was brilliant/emotional/intense? How about Obi-Wan's comical trip right after that? (Seriously, was that taken from a 3 stooges bit?)

There are parts of it that are pretty cool... but then it gets interrupted with crap. (see above) or crappy dialogue like -

"From my point of view, the Jedi are evil" "Well, then you are lost!"

"This is the end for you my master."

It does make sense. The force wouldn't decide who is more deserving to win or even control the manner in which they swing their blade (sounds like someone saying God helped them win a boxing match/football game/etc. ) Skill with a lightsaber and winning a fight would require training and improvisation, just like real world sword-fighting (I'm no authority.) The force would just provide enhanced reflexes and abilities. Of course there could be deception and anticipation in lightsaber swordplay.

The one thing I hate most in the entire prequel trilogy, worse than anything involving Jar Jar or the bland romance scenes, is this single line of dialogue. I think it stands out for me even more because I actually really enjoy Revenge of the Sith overall, and this line...my god this line. I literally cringe every single time I think of it.

The combination of how poor the dialogue is, with the way Christensen delivers it...just so, so awful.

I totally agree. I really like the PT... even though I'm savaging it here... there are just a few things that totally bother me.

There is a line in AOTC ... something like "He's holding me back! It's just not fair" and he throws something. Urgh.

I would like to see how George was directing Hayden. I've seen Hayden in other things and he doesn't seem to be as whiny, or bland. So, I wonder if he was trying to meet George's instructions. Plus, the writing makes it that much worse.

I love the PT.
I love the OT.

I love all 6 movies.

Both trilogies have good and bad... the OT has some corny not so great moments. When my boys saw E4 when Ben and DV fight - they looked at me like "huh".

But I like them all since they are all Star Wars.
I go back and forth on which I like better. 4-6 is the "highpoint" of the story, and ending with Jedi and the Empire destroyed at Endor.

But 1-3 has Anakin, Padme, way better swordfights, and Obiwan is much better (I think they should make Ewan a force ghost in e7).

Anyway, there are those of us who like all 6, and to be honest, are a bit tired of the PT bashing. But that is the internet.

It's only been 15 years now since Ep1.... I guess people will stop bashing at year 25? I say give it a rest.

You're right. I see that all the time in MMA and boxing. Two fighters who know each others' ins and outs, all they do is break dance fight.

Yet at the end of the day it is more than likely a difference in eras of movies. The OT was more like Japanese Kenjutsu. While the PT was more influenced by Martial Arts or more free flow.

Wow you would think that there are Seven different noted forms of Lightsaber combat for Jedi:

Form I: Shii-Cho was intended to cater to these new weapons (ligtsabers), establishing the basic motions and target zones utilized with a lightsaber.

Form II: Developed for the purpose of lightsaber-to-lightsaber combat, to address the failings of Form I, Makashi was the most dueling-centric of the seven classical forms.

Form III: Essentially a development on Form I blast-deflect training, Soresu relied on tight bladework and subtle dodges to provide maximum defensive coverage, minimizing exposure to ranged weaponry.

Form IV: Ataru was characterized by Force-assisted acrobatics, such as somersaults and leaping strikes, both for attack and defense. Another characteristic of the form was its fast, powerful strikes from multiple directions.

Form V: Shien, considered the classical Form V, was more adept at blocking blaster bolts, whereas Djem So was developed later and intended for lightsaber combat. Both Shien and Djem So were designed to use an opponent's attack against them, as evidenced by Shien's focus on returning blaster bolts to their origin and Djem So's emphasis on immediately striking back after a blow.

Form VI: Niman balanced out between the various specializations of the other forms, covering many of the basic moves, but focusing on overall moderation. This resulted in a fighting style that lacked a significant advantage, but also lacking any serious drawbacks, and thereby not leaving adherents as exposed as some of the more aggressive or specialized forms.

Form VII:The Juyo incarnation of Form VII was described as the most vicious form of lightsaber combat and was said to involve significant internal focus on the part of the user. A new variation of Form VII, dubbed Vaapad was created by Jedi Masters Mace Windu and Sora Bulq. Vaapad was explained as being a state of mind rather than just a fighting style, allowing the wielder to channel his own inner darkness into the duel, and accept the fury of the opponent.

Yoda primarily used Form IV Ataru, Mace Windu primarily used Form VII Vaapad and Maul primarily used Form VII Juyo.

Yeah I'm sure all boxers and MMA fighters train under one another right and develop Father-Son relationships? Anakin trained under Obi-Wan for 13 years and Obi-wan taught Anakin every last thing that he knew including his lightsaber skills and moves. I'm sure that happens all the time in MMA and Boxing right? As was said before they both went for the same tactic at the same time.

Have you ever actually watched a boxing match?

Long stretches of jabbing and feinting punctuated by a small number of actual punches (that may or may not land) are extremely common.

Especially when the two fighters are still feeling each other out and trying to get a sense of one another's timing.
