Just watched my first ever Guy Ritchie movie, some period actioner disguised as a Sherlock Holmes vehicle. Sigh.

Interesting talk about Apocalypse Now. I saw Redux when it was released in theatres and was decidedly underwhelmed - way too baggy. I thought the original cut was superior. Now with its Blue release, I thought, why not catch it one day, and so added it to my Zip list. Well, I guess no one else in Canada wants to see this, because it's been mailed to me. Earth to Zip: it was #88 on my list for a reason! Anyway, look forward to experiencing Wagner on my HT.

I just watched Psycho tonight. Five stars all across the board. I still cannot fathom why it was remade. It was just perfect.
I notice more and more everytime I view it especially some of the minor facial expressions of Tony Perkins. Yes he was typecast after this, but that was because he played the part to perfection. What a great acting performance shot on film.

We Don't Live Here Anymore

a tale of two marriages that are both falling apart. the two couples are friends, but when two of the friends sleep together and start their own separate relationship (outside of the marriage), hell seems to slowly break lose. a bleak, depressing and complicated look at what happens when you make the decision to cheat on a loved one.

what's interesting is how the remaining party (guy's wife, girl's husband) already believe this is happening, and then know this is happening, and what they do about it. i can't say i've seen anything quite like it, but a lot like Revolutionary Road, the characters were hard to connect with, but it seemed more like a movie where you connect with the situation, not the people themselves.

the main cast all does a great job, if at times they all seem to each be a little "out there". i think, personally Laura Dern did the best job, followed by Mark Ruffalo, Naomi Watts and then Peter Krause, who is no slouch by being last on this list.

can't say it's a film i would want to sit down and watch on a regular basis, and is far from perfect, but always interesting.

worth a rental.

3.5/5

Apocalypse Now (theatrical cut)

for the sixth, or seventh time this week (already?! ) sat down and watched Apocalypse Now

i think this time was the first time the girlfriend joined me since she wanted to see what i've been blabbering about all week. needless to say she thought it was, "long, kind of boring and i didn't get the ending with the bald guy" needless to say, she needs to be replaced with someone who understands what a masterpiece this is

i love it more and more every time i watch it
and my favorite scene is by far
[Show spoiler]when Willard and his boat crew are entering Kurtz' compound and the three prong bass track plays (surf! )
but there are a lot of other great ones as well.

watching Redux sometime this week. eventually.

5/5

Was going to rent Troy tonight instead of next weekend, but I needed to free up some space on my DVR, so I watched The Aviator.

I thought it was good but not great. Leo was clearly the best part of the film. His performance was great to watch. When he started going "down hill" he got even better. Some of those breakdowns of his were actually to watch. Great job by him

The rest of the cast was good. I saw that Blanchett won the Academy Award for her role, but I didn't think she exactly stupendous in her role

Oh, and I had no idea that Kate Beckinsale was in this movie. Talk about a nice surprise

The movie held my interest for the full runtime (which I had doubts that it would before watching), mostly because of Leo's performance, but also because of the story of Hughes.

There wasn't really anything that I came across that I hated or thought was really bad....but it just never exceeded "good" for me. It just strolled along at the same score throughout.

Oh, and in case you were wondering, it is indeed the newest member to join the One and Done Collection "One and Done Collection" a copyright of Diesel, LLC.

When it comes to war movies there's allot out there but only some focus on the solider or war fighter at hand. Some gave great stories but only a few actually are pretty accurate to the military.

Saving Private Ryan- While very entertaining this is not the life of a solider. Everything that takes place in the movie could happen but its very improbable.

We Were Soldiers- The most accurate solider movie i've seen yet, this is down right gritty!! Its showing you first hand how it would actually be. Without all the Hollywood glamor.

Tears of the Sun- I don't care how you put it, this movie is entertaining and very fun to watch but all those seals would of died in the real world. Good movie but i know this wouldn't of happened like this. No solider disobeys a lawful order from a 0-6!! Better yet put his whole squad in jeopardy for a small village. Gritty but true! But its still a entertaining movie.

Black Hawk Down- The most accurate spec ops movie out there. Based off a true story and felt very real. LOVED IT.

Behind Enemy Lines- FAKE FAKE FAKE. There isn't a satellite in the world that can track your every movement. That technology is unheard of. (Enemy of the State LOL) Sometimes movies can really have a overall effect on the general population. Any who that pilot would of died at the end or probably before that. Still entertaining but barely.

Stealth- Seriously...... Cool concept but no.

Full Metal Jacket- Um i really dont know what to say about this movie, because its really about the minds of marines and the whole boot camp era. Its a good first half movie but i dont think this movie qualifies.

Letters from Iwo Jima- Is GREAT! Eastwood's best work. Cant speak on its authenticity but the movie was damn good. Showing us there side of the War.

Thats my take oh Jhiggy this wasnt directed towards you. Just a general rant.
I'm not even sure how to respond to this post...

I will be short. Best war movie ever made so far.

Opposite to the popular beleive, I found the ending fight much more intruiging than the begining one. It was extremely realistic and very nerve cutting. I have bitten all my nails during that scene.
[Show spoiler]It sucked though that the Captain died. I didnt expect that. i thought the old guy was him.

I absolutely loved SPR but I also have a connection too it. Seeing the elderly man in the cemetery and collapsing in tears is one of the most touching moments I've seen in film. It gets to me every time.

Silent Hill

4/5

This to me is the best video game adaptation. This had scares, suspense and gore and a really good story and stayed quiet close to the game...i think.

Does anyone know if part 2 i still happening?

My Soul To Take

4/5

I really don't get what all the hate for this film is. I watched it online as i could't wait any longer.
I would have gave it a 5/5 but the ending just dragged on and on. I pray that some how this will make more money than it already has, it's doing terrible at the BO.

North By Northwest

Director: Alfred Hitchock
Writer: Ernest Lehman
Mains: Cary Grant, Eva Marie Saint, and James Mason

My wives divorced me! They said i live a dull life!

Synopsis: Roger Thornhill is into advertising and he incidentally gets is identity mixed up with a person that doesn't exist. Now in a mix up with the wrong type of people he has to prove his innocents and outrun these people that are trying to kill him. To make matters worse a woman gets involved and really turns on the heat for this hard working middle aged man.

My Take: Who said Alfred Hitchock was the king of Suspense? Well who ever said it needs a lifetime pass to the playboy mansion. This movie is the pinnacle of thrillers/suspense its simply amazing. Alfred Hitchock used a great combination of actors/actresses, amazing camera work, and a thrilling score. Everything is like fine wine! From the beginning to the end i was entertained. This movie seems like it started the whole BOND era.

Conclusion: Whatever hype of positive rumors you've heard of this movie is probably true. This movie is amazing and in a league of its own. You can truly see the effect this has had on modern thrillers. Its truly were it started (Until I see a movie that was made before this one that has the same effect on me.). Everyone is adorable especially Eva Marie Saint, i was damn near drooling whenever she was on the screen. This movie comes with my Highest Recommendation.

Highly Recommended

Stop chatting, get watching Apocalypse Now

Anyway, I just watched...

Goodfellas

Extremely awesome movie, very fast paced and covers a lot of aspects that are and aren't covered in the Gangster Genre. I like how it showed the
[Show spoiler]downfall of Henry Hill, but wasn't like he was killed of at the end, he just ratted out and had to live a normal life.
I wasn't too fond of hearing it from his wife's perspective, but I get why it does that and gives a little more detail to the story that isn't really explored in the genre. Joe Pesci is awesome in this, and was genuinely terrifying. All in all I really loved this movie.
