well this is both for you AND about my xv15

the antimode was being clipped during the opening night Fury scene in HTTYD. the sub was STARINIG...and I had NEVER heard that from the sub ever!!

I think i figured it out...I had the gain on the plate amp (on sub) too low, causing me to have to put the AVR sub out level to +4.5...this was making the antimode go to clip mode thus sending too powerful a signal to the sub...causing baaaad sound

so I upped the gain on the sub so I could get 78db on SPL while having the AVR out to -3.0. this SHOULD do the trick...I will retest on saturday and report back

EDIT: this is while using "flat" no subsonic filter....if i used the subsonic filter (filters all below 10hz sound) the bad noises went away...but I want a flat response...this filter causes a dropoff below 20hz which is no bueno

I have learned and figured out that to get the best from your sub, you want to get the proper Db level while keeping your AVR as close to around 0. To me it sounds the best and your get the best performance. Of course it also may depend on your AVR and/or other external equipment. Since your are using an antimode I have no idea. I have a Onkyo 3008 and I find I get the best sound and performance from my sub when I get the calibration as close to 0 on the AVR.

Sorry about that, i had it do that once with me, i dont know why, i had it up super loud, try this set the SUB trim on your AVR to the lowest possible, then turn the gain on the SUB up higher, that should work, HOPE THIS WORKS.

Woohoo! At least it's on it's way. Always does stink though when you don't get something before the weekend so you can play with it. I think the XS30 is a hair bigger than your empires I THINK. Not by much. Don't put the grills on till you find a place for it. I put mine on a blanket and just dragged it across the floor. Easiest way to move it besides when I had to pick it up and stack 1 on the other.

Yeah, I was just about to reply back to your earlier msg but saw you found out. They get it Monday but then they call for a appointment and typical would be the following day. I was able to drive up and just pick mine up 4hrs up, 4hrs back. I had the XV15 before I sold it. I just felt like I wanted more. I have a fairly large open room and 20' ceiling. I wanted to future proof also for whenever I had a more dedicated HT room done in the basement. I thought about adding a XV30 to my XV15 but after thinking about if I could sell my XV15 and use the money from that then drive up there to pick them up would save me another $120 of shipping cost. By that time I can get 2 XS30s for bout the price of 1 XV30. Talked to Tom through emails back n forth about it and what exactly I was looking for in the XS30s an future proofing.

Yea, your right those measurements are identical. I swear I've seen pics of the Empire and thought it looked a tad smaller. Prolly just the pics though.
