It has its scary moments (mainly with Cronenberg's character) but it's not like Hellraiser. More of a dark fantasy type thing where the monsters are the heroes.

"Dear Scream Factory, LOL you wanted this film and agreed to our deal, but we have our own titles to release and have our own budgets to follow. 50000.00 is way too much for a title that we hardly have any interest in, but thank you anyway for your interest in Warner Brothers*
I do have fun sometimes..im probably not far off the mark either

It's not that much considering the cult nature of the film; Shout Factory could've tried crowd-funding the audio restoration like Arrow Films did with restoring the far more obscure and lesser known Goto, Island of Love by Walerian Borowczyk- they raised nearly $50,000.

Shout Factory have all ready sold more copies of NightBreed than Goto, Island of Love will ever sell.

I didn't realize that by ordering through Amazon or DiabolikDVD we were not supporting Scream.
I'd be paying almost $40 more from Scream than from Amazon - due to their shipping price to Canada. $63 vs $100.
So it's easy for me - I get the product cheaper, and I support Scream by buying it!

That would have been a good idea that would have helped last year when they were just getting started on the release. If they tried it now it would more than likely delay the release, if they considered this an option.

I don't think anyone has seen the director's cut yet, I wouldn't be at all surprised if Barker is still working on it and it doesn't even exist as a complete film yet.

The theatrical cut of Nightbreed isn't overly gory, one or two bloody scenes but gore isn't it's main focus, it's more of a dark fantasy. Having said that it's definitely not a comedy. I can certainly see why it has gained a cult reputation and why it didn't appeal to the mainstream public in 1990 and bombed at the box-office.

Having said that I am personally a big fan of Nightbreed, it's quite a unique film and I can't think of another direct comparison right now.

Releases being delayed because of technical issues is not an usual phenomena; Zulawski's Possession -a film that also won't sell as many copies as Night Breed- took several years because of similar problems. If there's a will there's a way and the rewards would be greater. The delay might amount to a few months at the most, if done professionally.

I'm guessing it won't be selling a lot for extreme prices after the LE goes out of stock, because the normal edition is still available and not limited. I would guess that most people who really wanted the LE DC would have pre-ordered it.

I don't know how extreme the prices for it will be but the Limited Edition will always remain valuable as long as it is the only way to get the theatrical cut of Nightbreed and the bonus features disc it will include.

True. Unless Warner Bros. decides to release the theatrical cut themselves later on, buying the Limited Edition will be the only way to get that version of the film. This set is already rare because Shout! managed to make a deal with Warner for one of their titles, which I believe has only happened once before with Badlands.

Shout has been making deals with Warner Brothers for a long time now.

A lot of the MST3K Boxsets include films licensed from Warner Brothers.

Who knows if or when that would even happen. WB already made their money off of Nightbreed just by licensing it off to Shout and they know most of the eager fans of the films are buying this version so them releasing it themselves would be a financially questionable/risky decision.

"What is below, stays below. That is The Law." Not anymore. After 25 years of waiting, Scream Factory arrange a first class ticket to Midian with their restoration of Clive Barker's NIGHTBREED: THE DIRECTOR'S CUT (1990)! Tricked by his doc into thinking he may be a serial killer, greaser Boone goes on the lam from the law and runs into a tribe of monstrosities who call a massive underground cemetery home. One bite later and he's part of the pack, but his psychotic psychiatrist, the one truly responsible for the family slaughter-spree, rounds up a redneck posse to hunt down and exterminate the mutants. It's time for a monster rally. Release the Berserkers.

Barker's eagerly-awaited follow-up to the surprise success of his HELLRAISER (1987), NIGHTBREED seemed a sure-fire winner -- the popular author adapted his own story with a decent budget, a whole squad of effects artists were brought in for the imaginative creature make-up, even legendary director David Cronenberg showed up to act as the slashing shrink. Cover stories in all the genre rags pointed to a masterpiece. Then word started leaking out about studio interference... When the film finally hit screens, reception was just okay. An interesting, but flawed attempt. When interviewed, Clive bemoaned the fact that he wasn't able to finish the film as he wanted. Over the years, urban legends of his original edit grew, but nothing ever turned up. Rumors abounded the original footage was trashed. It seemed any hopes were for naught.

Then, a beacon of light. Original tapes of rough footage were found. A makeshift extended version was cobbled together, dubbed THE CABAL CUT. A handful of select screenings led to fans clamoring for a legit release. Shout Factory stepped up and promised a deluxe edition. Little did we know at the time that they'd be working with Warner Bros. in secret, spelunking the vaults even further. Then the unthinkable. The unfathomable. The unbelievable. The original film elements were located, enabling a real-deal Holyfield full-scale restoration. This new Director's cut apparently restores nearly an hour of missing footage, and according to the director, it's "put together in the way that I fully intended it to be seen when I first set out to make this film in 1989." Is it any good? Or still a flawed attempt? Don't know. But it's an hour longer. I'll find out in October.

The company is releasing two versions: a limited, bells & whistles three blu-ray special edition, featuring the new cut, the theatrical cut, and an exclusive disc full of supplements yet to be announced. For those not wanting to drop $55, there's also a standard Blu / DVD combo, with just the new version. "It's all true. God's an Astronaut. Oz is Over the Rainbow, and Midian is where the monsters live."

Original Trailer!

I would imagine they wouldn't move on any kind of decision to release it themselves until all 5,000 units are sold and as you said, most of the people who would want the theatrical cut would already have it through the Limited Edition set. However, there are bound to be some people who miss the boat getting the theatrical cut when the LE set is gone and I can't see Warner putting it out to accommodate a small minority of fans. Therefore, anyone who wants the theatrical cut on blu-ray should buy the Limited Edition now, because it is only going to go up in price once its sold out.

I was okay paying the 80, but I'm not really a poster collector. That 20+ savings is really tempting. Have pre-orders with both Amazon and SF; now to decide which one to cancel.

Also keep in mind you would be getting it two weeks earlier from Shout but that isn't important to some people either.
